[MEME] Let's Talk RC (CR Testdrive)

I don't really have a fitting picture for this.

G'day, Ruby City! It's time for a meme for both testdrivers and denizens.

Been itching to test out some CR but haven't had the posts to do it? Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • Choose a location and prompt or wait for someone else to tag.

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations:

  1. Train Station: New arrival, or waiting to welcome people? Either way, the train comes in, but you still can't ride it out.

  2. Cathedral: Looking for redemption? Just doing a little sight-seeing? Or just getting a little shelter?

  3. The Clocktower: You can see the whole city from here!

  4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.

  5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.

  6. The Coffee Joint: Run by James Potter and Lukas, a lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.

  7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

Scenarios

  1. Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.

  2. Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.

  3. Inclimate weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?

  4. Wild card: Got something better in mind? Well screw these prompts, try it out yourself!

Have fun, guys!

How interesting that for such a 'peaceful' city, there are so few normal humans. You would think they would make 'better' captives than those of us with powers would. Though, I suppose if those in charge are really that much stronger than we are, it doesn't matter if we are strong or not. We could all seem powerless to them when it comes down to it.

[He falls quiet a moment, pondering the information she has given him and then notices the mention of something he is completely unfamiliar with.]

What is the network?
untilavalon: (ʏᴏᴜ'ʀᴇ ᴏɴ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴏᴡɴ)

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-06-29 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
You're right; they certainly don't seem choosy.

[--Ah, of course she'd forgotten to explain. She pulls the watch from her pocket, looking Diarmuid over as if to suggest he ought to have one somewhere.]

They gave us these watches as communication devices-- with them each resident can write or record a message that is then displayed on the network, or with the right settings, sent to a specific person.

Did you not find one? [They tend to show up again even if you've lost them; one couldn't seem to get rid of them.]
oathshackledbird: Sunglasses (Sunglasses)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-06-29 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Is that why I had a pocket watch when I got off the train?

[Diarmuid reaches into a small and all but invisible pocket in his armor and pulls out a watch that is similar to Saber's.]

It was in my hand when I stepped off the train and I had no idea where it had come from and what I was suppose to use it for. This really lets you do all of that? How amazing...

But why a pocket watch of all things?
untilavalon: (Wᴇʟʟ ᴇɪᴛʜᴇʀ ᴡᴀʏ)

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-06-29 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't the slightest.

[She hadn't thought of it, really. She'd simply been given the tool and used it, but come to think of it-- why a pocketwatch? Surely the phones such as Lady Irisviel had used weren't the most easy to understand, but they'd certainly seemed more reasonable than talking into, well.

A watch.]

Now that you mention it, it... is rather peculiar. But-- yes, they do perform all these functions. Sometimes it seems without its users intent...
oathshackledbird: What (What)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-06-29 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Without the user's intent? How can that be?

[It's not that he doubts her, but what she says sounds completely impossible. Inanimate objects don't work that way!]

Has anyone found out why they do that or if there is anything that can be done to prevent them from doing that?

[Diarmuid looks the watch over, his expression becoming embarrassed.]

I have no idea how this works. You...will need to show me...
untilavalon: (ᴀɴᴅ ᴡʜᴀᴛ ɪs ʏᴏᴜʀs?)

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-06-29 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I believe they're sensitive-- if tapped or dropped accidentally, they may begin to record, I think.

[She stops walking, standing next to him and opening her watch before him and points to different buttons as she speaks. Saber can detect his embarrassment, but speaks calmly. There is no reason for him to feel lesser for not knowing what he has not been exposed to, and she shan't mock him for it.]

It takes a bit of practice, but different buttons correspond to different functions. And of course, there is a a way to use text communication. This is the control for recording video, which I believe must be the most sensitive control. There have been a few mishaps on the network.

Oh, and it would seem that being in the city eliminates any language barrier as well. No matter their origin, I have found no one with whom I cannot speak.
oathshackledbird: Tree (Tree)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-06-29 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That would explain why I have been able to understand all the people I have heard talking.

[Diarmuid nods, glad to have at least this part of the puzzle solved.]

However, would you allow me to test something? I am curious as to if this place is forcing all to speak a common language or if they are simply translating as we speak. Can you understand this?

[For a moment, he pauses and then says a few lines in rather rapid Ancient Gaelic. The words translate roughly to "I am very grateful for all of your help, Saber. I cannot imagine how troublesome this would all be without your assistance."]
untilavalon: (ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴏɴ'ᴛ ʙᴇ ɢᴏɪɴɢ ᴛʜɪʀsᴛʏ)

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-06-30 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Saber listens attentively, tilting her head just a bit as she listens.]

Well, I recognise a few words as familiar- however, I do not understand them. I believe if I were to speak in the language of the romans or even of the Britons and surrounding peoples, you'd have just as much trouble understanding my words.

I suppose perhaps it is a forced spell-- but how?
oathshackledbird: Angle (Angle)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-06-30 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Diarmuid nods since her reaction is about what he was expecting. They understand each other, but only if they do not try to purposely speak something besides what naturally comes out of their mouths.]

I don't know the answer to that question, Saber. In some ways, it reminds me of the Grail teaching us all to speak Japanese since the war was held in Japan and we would not be much use if we could not understand the native language. However, at the same time, this is nothing like the Grail. Whatever created this place and gives the administrators the power they have seems like something even more powerful than the Grail and that is a truly frightening thought.
untilavalon: (Yᴏᴜ ᴄᴀɴ «ʀᴇᴄʟᴀɪᴍ» ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴄʀᴏᴡɴ)

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-06-30 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
...If what you say is true, then I hope desperately those in command are nothing like the grail.

[Saber knows more than she should know. And though upon return her fate is inevitable, she cannot regret learning what she has.]

I fear what danger the residents may be in, should that be so.
oathshackledbird: Past (Past)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-06-30 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
You will not find me arguing with you on that. Thankfully, I have a feeling that somehow we would know if the Grail or something like it was involved. At least...I hope we would.

[Diarmuid seems unsure for a moment before shrugging.]

However, worrying about it now really won't get us anywhere. Please, will you continue with the things you think I need to know about this place?
untilavalon: (Yᴏᴜ ʟᴏsᴛ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴍɪɴᴅ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ sᴏᴜɴᴅ)

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-06-30 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
...That's true.

[She continues, crossing her arms once again as she thinks.]

Have I told you which servants are here and which aren't? Moreover-- have I already explained the case of residency in this place?
oathshackledbird: Profile (Profile)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-06-30 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
You told me that Archer was here and mentioned learning who he was, but did not mention his name. You also mentioned the other Lancer along with Assassin's master and Rider's master. Are there any others I should know about?

[Diarmuid pauses a moment at her second question replaying their conversation in his mind. Finally, he shakes his head.]

I don't believe you have mentioned anything about residency. Perhaps that should be the topic we discuss next?
untilavalon: (Yᴏᴜ ᴄᴀɴ ʀᴇᴄʟᴀɪᴍ)

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-06-30 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
--It is important I mention him, I suppose. Gilgamesh, King of Heroes. [She seems rather nonplussed, but she has every reason.]

As for residency, it would appear that the city was abandoned before anyone came here. As such, so long as the buildings aren't occupied, anyone may live where they wish.

[She pushes her hair out of her face, almost as though embarrassed.]

That, along with a lack of monetary trade or bartering, makes living here at first a bit awkward for some. Still, with the supplies of the city constantly being replenished, it would seem there is no problem in it.
oathshackledbird: Tree (Tree)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-06-30 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Diarmuid nods, tucking away the information on Archer's identity. He has no desire to run into the haughty servant, but if it does happen it will be good to know who he is considering it actually does explain quite a lot about him.

However, what is of more interest to him now is the information Saber has just given him about the city.
]

Are you saying that everything is really free for the taking and that people can just pick a building to live in? How does that work? Do things just replenish so quickly that even if someone decided to clear out everything others would not have to wait long to get what they need?

[He is, of course, thinking of how easy it would be for someone with a good amount of power to gather and restrict all of the necessary supplies in the city otherwise. After all, it was something that happened all the time back during his first life.]
untilavalon: (Tʜᴇʀᴇ's sᴏ ᴍᴜᴄʜ ᴍᴏʀᴇ)

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-06-30 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
--Yes, that is so. I have found no shortage reported so far. [And Saber can eat a lot. And had to, back when Kariya's less-than-acceptable magic circuits were switched with her own.]

There appears to be no unfair imbalance and a surprising amount of peace for a place with little constructed government. It would seem most have accepted we are all captives and most wish not to cause trouble-- especially since some sort of uprising may upset the captors, from what I hear.

[She crosses her arms, pondering it more.]

If I am gracious, it could be assumed our captors are also attempting to seem accommodating-- allowing shortages would do no such thing.
oathshackledbird: Red (Red)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-07-01 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
A false sense of security and good will. A smart trick for our captors to use. Many who might otherwise fight will stay quiet if there is a risk of upsetting the status quo for no certain improvement.

[He seems to say this more to himself than to Saber. Diarmuid is obviously speaking to her, though, when he continues.]

You speak almost as if there has been uprising in the past with poor results for the people here. Is that true?
untilavalon: (Yᴏᴜ'ʀᴇ ɪɴ ❨ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴏʟ❩)

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-07-01 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, I cannot be sure. I've received little information on the matter.

All that I do know is that there is a building that has been levelled and never rebuilt, that a few buildings were damaged in a confrontation with one of the captors. However, I haven't any idea what that confrontation involved.

[Oh, and one more thing--]

There's something else important to note. I've witnessed it only once, and only by watching the network, but it would appear as though death is neither permanent here nor is it an escape from the boundaries of the city.
oathshackledbird: Profile (Profile)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-07-02 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Diarmuid shakes his head. He should be shocked to hear that death is not permanent. Yet for some reason, he is not.]

And so another way this place reminds me of the Grail. It is as if we are somehow recorded on something so that we never truly can die.

These administrators. What can you tell me about them? Not just about them as...whatever they are...but also about their interactions with the city and the people who they hold here. You mention that building being leveled. Do you know of any other occurrences even just in passing?
untilavalon: (Wᴇʟʟ ᴇɪᴛʜᴇʀ ᴡᴀʏ)

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-07-02 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, I have not encountered them since being here. I have heard from only one man-- named... Phoenix, I believe? About a bit of destruction in the city. However, I could garner little more information about the m from anyone; it would appear as though they wish to conceal themselves most of the time.

There was something else he mentioned as well-- a set of catacombs below the city. It would seem that at times, people find themselves there without reason, going missing for days at a time.
oathshackledbird: Profile (Profile)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-07-03 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I would say it is probably more fortunate than unfortunate that you haven't met them since arriving. Even with what little you have been able to tell me, it sounds like they are best left encountered.

[Diarmuid frowns when she mentions the catacombs.]

They find themselves there without reason? Are they unwillingly taken then? Do they just appear there? Have they said much about what they have found inside? Has anyone tried to go there willingly to explore?
untilavalon: (ɪɴsɪᴅᴇ ʏᴏᴜʀ ʜᴇᴀᴅ✩)

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-07-03 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
With such seemingly absolute power over this place, I'd have to agree with you.

And... it would seem so. I was told that those who willingly wished to explore them had trouble encountering them-- and in fact, the man I spoke with couldn't tell me where they are located at all. Unfortunately, that's about all I know about them.
oathshackledbird: Petals (Petals)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-07-04 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Diarmuid sighs, an annoyed look crossing his face.]

Of course. How convenient for them and frustrating for us. I wonder what they are trying to hide.

[He shakes his head.]

But I suppose that is something that will have to be left for later. Are there other odd places like that in the city I should know of?
untilavalon: (Tᴀᴋᴇ ɪᴛ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍᴇ)

this is forever late you don't have to reply if ya don't wanna

[personal profile] untilavalon 2013-07-07 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
If I knew...

[Well, she'd be doing something about it, but still.]

As far as I've seen, there aren't. I know that the beasts are more populous in the park, but the only labyrinth that exists seems to be the one in the catacombs.
oathshackledbird: Angle (Angle)

I did warn you I backtag forever, right? :-P

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-07-07 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, you mentioned the park and its dangers before.

[Diarmuid pauses a moment to sort through all the information she has given him before finally speaking again.]

This might seem like an odd question, but tell me. What is it you do all day, Saber? What keeps your attention in this strange city?

I AM PLEASED.
