Was it worth it.

Yes and no.

Yes, it was worth being his master. Better that I take on the brunt of him than somebody who doesn't know him, who couldn't stand up to him, be stuck with him. He would have hurt or tortured or manipulated his Mater into doing his bidding. I couldn't let somebody else have that much blood on their hands.

That being said, no. Because I couldn't control him like I thought I could.

[His defenses do soften at that. He turns enough to face her.]

I'm sorry, too. [He gestures vaguely at her.] That you died. Shit sucks.

[The words were harder to say than she expected and the guilt is fresh and there. When he turns to face her there's at least a little bit of relief.]

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I'm just...surprised by the method.

Did it hurt?

T-That's not what I meant. From where I was it looked like the blow was clean and should have caused death instantly.

[And then, as blandly as possible, because this is a terrible joke and he should feel terrible:]

[That is the worst joke ever, DaveSprite and it earns a little snort.]

That was just awful, and yet oddly true. Being dead isn't as bad as I thought it would be...

[Her hand lifts to scratch at the back of her head.]
