DEC. TEST DRIVE

It's that time again!

G'day, Ruby City!

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • Choose a location and prompt or wait for someone else to tag.

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations:

  1. Train Station: New arrival, or waiting to welcome people? Either way, the train comes in, but you still can't ride it out.

  2. Cathedral: Looking for redemption? Just doing a little sight-seeing? Or just getting a little shelter?

  3. The Clocktower: You can see the whole city from here!

  4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.

  5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.

  6. The Coffee Joint: A lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.

  7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

Scenarios

  1. Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.

  2. Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.

  3. Bad weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?

  4. Wild card: Got something better in mind? Well screw these prompts, try it out yourself!

Have fun, guys!

It is looking distinctly more likely, yes.

[And well, after the last time he and this incarnation were in the same place at the same time it's not impossible that it's them folding time in on itself. Even if he is pretty sure he'd remember creating a pocket dimension, accidentally or otherwise.]

Two sets of eyes, that'll make the looking easier. Of course, we don't know what we're looking for, either. Something that looks out of place, perhaps? The place does seem to have a certain aesthetic to it, after all. Of course, if we could find the TARDIS it would be easier, but that's just the problem now, isn't it? We'll have to do things the old-fashioned way.

[Five's something of a magnet for it, too, what with The Master making one adjacent to the big bang right at the start.]

Well, for a start, we'd need to find out the boundaries of this dimension, you know, places where space can't keep up the illusion that it continues to exist. Some sort of repeating area, or paradoxical directions, or maybe even just the boundary of it all.

[The idea that this isn't centered on him won't enter his mind.]

[No, that doesn't really help. Didn't really help? Either way, the point is currently moot, as far as Eight is concerned.]

Finding the boundaries ought to be easy enough, if we just walk in opposite directions. Assuming the directions are the way they should be, at any rate. We'd need some way to keep in touch, though.

[He'll just keep an eye out for any suspicious folk with evil looking beards. Can't be too careful about those, these days. Or those days. Whichever.]

And I suppose sending letters is right out.

[Shame, too. He's rather fond of those.

But thinking's happening here.]
Surely there must be something.

[personal profile] calmbefore 2013-12-06 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Either way, it's still a good thing to keep an eye out for. You really can't be too careful, after all.]

Mmmm, I should think so. Wouldn't want to keep people out of touch even here.

[Especially not when it's such an urban looking pocket dimension, and he's starting to dig through his pockets as he answers. There's got to something of use in there, or something that can be jury-rigged into working for the purpose.]

Let's see here...

[Sonic screwdriver, a small bag of jelly babies (which he offers to his fifth incarnation mostly on rote muscle memory), a large ball of yarn in the precise color of the TARDIS, various unconnected odds and ends, and one - no two - pocket watches. One is his, of course, odd though it probably is for a man so very connected into Time itself to care to keep a pocketwatch about his person, but the other is apparently courtesy of the pocket dimension itself. And maybe also more of a communicator than a watch, appearances aside.]

Well now, maybe we're getting somewhere.

[In the blink of an eye, everything save the pair of watches vanishes back into the depths of his pockets and only once they've been tucked away does he offer the watch-shaped communicator to his other self.]

What do you make of this?
pinkishgray: (the cloud-capp'd towers)

i just wanted to say i really love this thread <3

[personal profile] pinkishgray 2013-12-06 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
[He'll take one of those jelly babies, thank you. He's missing his screwdriver -- sorry about that-- but he does have several coins and bits of string in his pockets. He watches the watches for a moment.]

Oh, hang on a tick. [What's this-- oh.

A very similar pocket watch. It certainly wasn't there this morning.]

You don't think...?

[And thus begins examining the watch, hopefully without taking it apart entirely. He might be lacking a screwdriver, but he's not lacking in brains. So, in a moment or two, the watch opens and the communicator appears.]

Well, what do you know.
calmbefore: (there might just be a way...)

I've been loving it a lot too <3

[personal profile] calmbefore 2013-12-06 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[The lack of a screwdriver on his other self's end doesn't bother him much. It's a handy little thing, yes, but he still remembers not having one. Honestly, it's only recently that he has gotten around to making another one. The life of a Time Lord is a busy one, after all, or so it certainly seems.]

Oh, I very much do.

[It fits in with the decor of this not-quite-city nearly as much as his outfit does, and he'd know if he'd picked up a spare watch. So really, he's not at all surprised when he gets his opened up only seconds after his younger self, with similar results.]

Well, that takes care of the communication aspect, at least.

[Assuming, of course, that they really want to trust them, but that is another matter entirely.]

[So much time, and so much to do in it. And it moves so quickly, when it bothers moving at all. Just a blink and months go by. Really, it's a wonder anything gets done at all, sometimes.]

Very considerate of them. You usually don't get service like this in, oh, say, the average abandoned labor mine.

[Which may or may not look suspiciously like a quarry.]

I don't know, do you suppose there's some kind of trick to this?

[The examining of the pocket watch continues unabated.]

Something to do with the method of transmission, maybe, and of course, there's always the chance that someone's listening in.
calmbefore: (there might just be a way...)

[personal profile] calmbefore 2013-12-07 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
[There are an awful lot of places that may or may not look suspiciously like a quarry, or so it certainly seems, looking back over the long years of his life.]

Of course there's a trick. It's not just anyone who can get something into our pockets. Especially without us noticing.

[...Says the man whose pockets are nigh-bottomless.]

But if we can just isolate the frequency of the signal...

[Naturally, this requires more poking, but he's never been one to let that stop him, and he's fairly certain the same can be said of his younger self as well.]
pinkishgray: (the cloud-capp'd towers)

[personal profile] pinkishgray 2013-12-07 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
[If it's not a quarry, it's this same bit of tunnel/hallway over and over again. But he supposes that's just one of those universal design things. Can't be helped.]

It just makes you start wondering what they might've taken instead. Although I don't think there's much missing that wasn't missing before...

[For pockets roughly the size of the TARDIS, he's got a pretty good idea of what's usually in them.]

We can triangulate where it's coming from!

[Good ole fashion jiggery pokery can never let you down.]
calmbefore: (there might just be a way...)

[personal profile] calmbefore 2013-12-08 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Under other circumstances, he might have stopped to wonder why so many planets and peoples have come up with the same designs. But that's for some other time. Right now, they have more important things to concern themselves with.]

Mmmm, no, I don't think anything would be. Not this time, anyway.

[It doesn't feel like anything's missing, at least, and he knows his pockets fairly well. Or at least, he likes to thing he does. Either way, he nods as his other self comes to the exact same conclusion.]

Exactly. They'll lead us right to their doorstep.

[Or, you know, away from it, but that is perhaps the less likely option.

But first, he's going to need to pop the face of the communicator off. Can't do anything with that in the way!]
pinkishgray: (which was to please)

[personal profile] pinkishgray 2013-12-10 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Well, what are we waiting for! We ought to pop over for a visit, don't you think?

[A nice, friendly chat. Only probably not very friendly, and the amount of chatting's debatable.]

And please. Nothing's ever done by heading away from the evil lair of choice.]
Edited 2013-12-10 02:24 (UTC)
calmbefore: (I think that turned out rather well)

[personal profile] calmbefore 2013-12-10 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I quite agree.

[Hopefully whoever's responsible is someone who can be talked to, but they'll get there when they get there.

Better still, with the face of the communicator off it's significantly easier to see how to arrange things to bring them to darken the door of whoever's in charge. Hopefully Five doesn't mind his future self talking to himself as he works.]

Oh, now that's interesting. Certainly not the technology you'd expect from somewhere that looks like this. Someone's been doing a little borrowing, I think.

Let's see... connect this here and redirect back through this... there. That ought to do it.

[They may still need to triangulate it out, but well. That can easily be done, and he turns to offer a grin at his other self.]

Shall we, then?
pinkishgray: (the great globe itself)

[personal profile] pinkishgray 2013-12-10 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, goodness, no.]

Everything's nice and Victorian, isn't it, but not quite, like somebody's been doing some upgrades here and there.

[It's fun, trying to keep up with himself.]

Oh, let's!

[They're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of RC. Which doesn't scan like Oz, but it works well enough.]

Yes, and ones they shouldn't be able to make yet.

[Which is the worrying part, really, but there's the chase to be had, and that's the fun part anyway.]

Come along, then!

[There's no time like the present, after all. Unsurprisingly, the signal seems to be leading the pair of them into the city proper.

(As for the fact that it doesn't scan quite like Oz, well, they can maybe work on that later. If they have time.)]
