2. Cathedral: Looking for redemption? Just doing a little sight-seeing? Or just getting a little shelter?


3. The Clocktower: You can see the whole city from here!


4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.


5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.


6. The Coffee Joint: A lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.


7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

Scenarios

1. Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.


2. Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.


3. Bad weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?

Well, there's a lot about the city that's worrying. [ understatement. though it's difficult to tell, sometimes, if the good things about it balance everything wrong out or not. ] Though - I hope it's okay to ask, but why did you have a phone booth with you in the first place? I'm guessing it's not because you had to make a phone call.

I did say "looks like", didn't I? It might be shaped like one thing, but really be something of another.

Sorry, sorry. That was stating the obvious, I guess. [ jeez... ] Well... whatever it is, I'm sorry you've lost it. Ah... what is it, then?

[ though he might not want to overstep his boundaries, it's hard not to be curious at all this cloak and dagger. ]

Ah, well, that's a bit complicated. [Babble mode: go.] And probably much easier if I could actually show you. But-- well, I suppose you'd call it a time machine, though it's hardly a machine at all. It's called the TARDIS, stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space, and you'll forgive me if I'm rushing but most people have difficulty wrapping their heads around it to begin with, so it's probably best to get it all out at once.

[ it was hard to completely follow all that babble once the Doctor really got into it, but he figures time machine was probably the important part. still, in the shape of a blue phone box? ...it's no weirder than an inter-dimensional train, in the end... ]

That's-- wow. I can see why you wouldn't want to lose something like that. Why is it a phone box?

[ how do you even time travel in something as cramped as a phone box? ]

Oh, because I like it that way. [And the chameleon circuit's broken. Because he likes it that way.] And it's got a bit more space on the inside than you'd think it might.

How does that work?

Oh, well, a larger dimension is kept inside the much smaller shell, on account of transcendent engineering. Very tricky stuff, as you might imagine.

[ Kariya lets out a small laugh. ] Actually... I can't. That all went a bit over my head, I'm afraid. But whatever transcendent engineering is, it sounds really impressive.

Part of the territory, really. And since you haven't gone accusing me of making it up entirely, you're fairing much better than average.

Well, to be honest, even if I hadn't been living here for a while, I don't think I could imagine anyone making up a story that fantastic and then sticking to it.

Oh, you'd be surprised. Can't seem to go more than two weeks without it.

[ he guesses it makes sense. after all, even if Kariya believes him, it is pretty out there. ]

[ the smallest of pauses, and then: ]

I'm Kariya. Nice to meet you.

I'm the Doctor. Likewise, actually.

Well, more or less. There might be a couple other titles attached by now, I can never keep track of those. But yes, the Doctor will do.

Well, okay. [ he can roll with that. ]

I am sorry about your time machine. It'd probably make things a whole lot easier for you if you had it.

Oh, without a doubt. But I've managed without one before, albeit a long time ago now. [About two lives ago, to be precise.] Just another thing on the list of complaints I simply must take up with whoever's running the place.
