EVENT - Spring Fling
Spring has sprung, Ruby City! Yes, it's getting harder and harder to ignore the changing of the seasons lately. Snowy days have turned into rainy ones, and gradually, those have turned into sunny ones. More and more flowers of various shapes and sizes line the streets of the city, turning up in all the expected places. Birds are chirping, bees are buzzing, and whatever else they might happen to be getting up to is best left to posts a little more private than this one. Yes, Spring is here.
In keeping with the captors' fondness for seasonal events, a little Spring celebration has been sprung upon the city with no more warning than the very flowers it's themed around. Because who doesn't love a nice festival?
Monday morning, the city will awake to find itself positively overwhelmed with a rather over-the-top set of Spring-themed decorations. Garlands of ribbons and flowers in cheery pastel shades hang on and between the buildings, filling the air with their sweet perfume and lending a decidedly happier feel to the city in general.
~ All around the flower-littered fountain surrounding the obelisk at the city center, stalls of all sorts have been erected. Manned by identical, human-looking but silent and vacant-eyed strangers, the stalls provide most of what one might generally expect to find at any sort of celebration along these lines; Hot and cold treats, popular sweets prepared on the spot, clothes and jewelry and knickknacks of all sorts can be had free for the taking.
~ Lining the streets various old-fashioned rides and carnival games can be found and enjoyed, again free of charge. Nothing very modern or flashy, true, but old favorites such as ring-toss games, skeeball, shooting galleries and so on can be enjoyed by anybody who cares to try their hand at winning a prize. The prizes are, naturally, almost all stuffed animals-- Though the especially-determined among the city may find themselves the proud new owners of the occasional goldfish or songbird, if they really try. The rides include classics like simple roller coasters, a large bumper car set, fun houses, a truly immense ferris wheel set up at the entrance to the park, and many others.
~ For those inclined to offer performances, a stage has been erected in front of the cathedral. It offers only a basic curtained-off "backstage" area, but attached is a spacious shed full of all the props, costumes, instruments and makeup any aspiring star might hope to find. Feel free to take turns putting on whatever puppet shows and rock concerts strike anybody's fancy! Who knows who might be impressed by what they see?
~ In front of the library, a large and apparently bottomless wishing well has been dug, or at least a structure that resembles one has been erected. Given that Ruby City operates without currency, one will simply have to try and find some other suitable items to offer it if they'd like to try and wish for something(Please no songbirds or goldfish). But be careful! If the well deems the offering to be somehow insulting, one's wish may go somewhat awry...
* The well's abilities are considerable, as it operates under the captors' powers. While it's (thankfully) not as capricious as they are, it's still a little unpredictable.
*Wishes that grant something physical(a new bicycle, minor changes like a different hairstyle, whatever) will last even after the event has ended-- Meaning those will be permanent(at least until the character breaks their bicycle or gets a haircut, anyway).
*Other wishes, however, that grant less tangible things("I wish I was braver/more confident/multilingual") will last only until they wear off on their own or the event ends, whichever comes first.
*Wishes that grant extreme/unfortunate results(You always wanted to be a giant pigeon, right? How about the inability to speak in anything but song?) will also last only until they wear off on their own or until the event's end, whichever comes first.
*A separate IC "Wishing Well" post will be set up so that players can make wishes in it and have them answered "by the well," but once their wish has been either granted or botched they may feel free to make posts of their own, announcing it.
Happy Spring, Ruby City!
This is a CITY-WIDE event. Participation in the festival itself is of course not mandatory, but it will be going on regardless! The event will run from MONDAY, APRIL 23 until SUNDAY, APRIL 29. If you have any questions, please see the QUESTIONS THREAD in the "Comments" section of this entry. Otherwise, have fun, and thanks for playing!
