4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.

At the sound of her voice, Snow couldn't help but smile. Serah was his world, his family, the reason he'd been able to push through so much during the dark times as a l'Cie back on Cocoon and later on Pulse.

Being with her, while she had Lightning again, was nearly picture-perfect. She smiled again, and that's what really mattered to him the most. Things with his future sister-in-law were dicey, but he kinda expected that when he left New Bodhum to find Lightning and Serah was all alone back in the town.

He knew that she felt listless. It was practically written in every line of her pretty face. She needed something to occupy her time. Lightning and Fang had patrols and their shifts at the flower shop with that Aerith chick. He patrolled like a fiend when he wasn't at home. But Serah was still bumping heads with her older sister about what she could and couldn't do.

When she called him a hero, his smile grew a little crooked, less self-assured. "Same as always, I guess. Just trying to figure out what's really up with this place. Not getting anywhere though."

"I don't think anyone is." she explained, sighing. As much as this place frustrated everyone, she thinks it must bother Snow the most. While it was annoying for her to not have a place here, everything was still pretty much perfect. For him, it was a replay of Cocoon, with less answers and even less certainty. You couldn't fight what you couldn't see.

She gently rubbed his arm. "We'll get there, though. I know we will. With you and my sister, I don't think the city stands a chance." She meant it. He and her sister were very, very stubborn, and they wouldn't rest until they had discovered a way out. They may not agree on methods, but they would both agree on getting everyone out of here and keeping their shared person safe.

"Should I let you get back to patrolling or are you still on break?"

He hated this place. The only consolation was the people. And sometimes he wondered if that was enough. He constantly struggled with himself not to go and pick a fight with the assholes who ran this place. He heard they showed up from time to time. But, if something happened to him, Serah would be upset and Lightning would pretty much be vindicated in hating him.

Two things that he didn't want to happen. Ever.

So, he'd started trying to temper his enthusiasm for a fight to be the way to free them from this place. No, if they were going to get anywhere, he had to start thinking with his head, not his muscles. And in the meantime, the patrols that generally led to him fighting at least one monster a day helped to burn a lot of the frustration he felt out of his system by the time he returned home.

"Yeah, I guess if anyone can get us out of here, it's me, Lightning and Fang, right? Just like old times." He leaned down to kiss her soft lips gently, happy that she'd come to knock him out of his brooding. "I guess I can take a few minutes longer for my favorite girl."

"Don't forget me." she said, kissing him back. She had grown, even if he hadn't gotten to see it. Though she was sure he knew she was just as smart as him and Light and Fang, all of them still treated her with caution, as if she'd get in trouble with just one step. She'd prove them wrong, if they'd only give her the chance.

While he leaned down, she took his hat from off his head, and smirked, putting it behind her back. "Well, now you'll have to spend a few more minutes, if you want your hat back." she teased, slowly backing up towards the stairs. If she knew anything, a good game would get Snow out of his funk. A little adventure, even if it wasn't much at all, was better than nothing.

"I could never forget you," he replied as he pulled back. Looking down at her, he realized how lucky he was that he had her in his life. She was a big reason that he'd grown in the last few years and a life without her was too hard to imagine for him. The very thought hurt.

He reached out after her when she stole his bandana, but she was too quick. "Hey, give that back. My hair's gonna get in my eyes with all the wind."

"I didn't hear a please in there." Serah teased, giggling as she stood at the top of the stairs. She loved her fiancee, and that meant teasing him sometimes. But only a bit. She'd make sure he'd get it back before he left the tower.

"What's the magic word~?"

He took a step in her direction, smiling at how happy she seemed for the moment. If it meant her making fun of him, he was okay with that too. He loved her and she loved him as well.

"Please give me back my bandana, Serah."

"Okay!" she hands it back to him, her touch lingering a second too long, as she turned, ready to leave.

"I should probably let you get back to your patrol, huh?"

"Thanks." He took the bandana back, placing it carefully on his head before scooping her up, bridal style and swinging her around.

"If you think I'm gonna just let you disappear after a stunt like that, you're insane." And before she could say anything, he leaned down to kiss her soundly.

She kissed him back, putting her arms around his neck. In that moment, she tried to convey all of her feelings- the sadness she felt when he was gone, the happiness she felt that he was here, and all the hope he made her feel for the time he was around. She felt safe in his arms, and held onto the moment for as long as she could. She felt awkward being this forward around Light, so for now, all her feelings would show as they were.

"I wouldn't call myself insane....just crazy in love for you." she smiles, pulling back from the kiss.

The moment their lips met, Snow was completely engulfed in all the feelings that she invoked in him. He didn't want to live his life without her. She was the light in his world and had been from the moment he'd laid eyes on her in Bodhum. Nothing was as important as the woman in his arms.

"That makes two of us then," he whispered happily. "Wanna help me finish up my patrol and then we can head somewhere for dinner. It'll give Sis and Fang some time alone."

"I'd love to, but don't you need those arms to fight?" she asked, gently prodding his arms. As much as she didn't mind being carried by him, she doubted the two could be an effective pair while cuddling like this.

"Dinner sounds great, though. Sis and Fang need some time together, anyways."
