April Test Drive

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - None at the moment, but feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

Samwise Gamgee | Lord of the Rings | 8-4

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-07 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
[It was another adventure, and must like the last this one was one that Sam had not planned on. Still as he stepped off of the train he found himself in a strange land, no idea as to why he was there or what it was exactly he was supposed to do. This time there was no magical ring to be destroyed, no Frodo for him to tend to or look after, still there had to be a reason why the hobbit was brought here.]

Well you're here now and there is no turning back I s'pose.

[It was an awfully strange place. At least compared to the shire it was, nothing as fancy as the elven cities though. Luckily he had brought plenty of food and enough supplies to last him a few days at least. As for being seen, well it would be quite easy to look over a hobbit standing just over three and half feet, so it'd be quite easy to bump into him.]
bythewaves: (song)

is this any good?

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-04-07 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
There's a bard in the city, singing the tales of long ago and far away in a voice elven fair. There's a bard in the city, who sometimes sings of things much more recent. There's an elven bard who most of Middle-earth thinks is dead, who sits in the park and sings of Frodo the Nine-Fingered, and Samwise the Brave.

Maglor looks up when he hears an approach and his eyes widen, hands striking a welcome chord on his harp and he rises to bow. Sam does not know him - but all of Middle-earth knows Sam.
his_gardener: (Look up to a lot of people)

It's wonderful.

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-07 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
For a hobbit song and music were certainly a welcome sound, it usually meant there was a good time to be had. And while he may not be able to make out quite a few of the words, those that were in languages Sam had only heard a few times and for a short time, he could tell enough that it was an elf singing.

"Please don't stop on my account. I was just hoping I might be able to hear a little more. That is if you don't mind me listening and all."
bythewaves: (shall I play something)

\o/

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-04-08 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh no Master." Maglor bows and settles himself again. "It is an honor beyond words to be able to play for you. Did you have any requests, or should I simply keep going?"

Samwise murmurs Curufin Half-wise, isn't it? So short sighted, to not see the truth of his wisdom is greater than them all.
his_gardener: (A good smoke)

/o/ \o\ \o/

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-10 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah no it's nothing special like that. I'm no one special or anything, so feel free to play whatever you please."

Really Sam was not entirely certain who this was, or why he felt like he had to treat the situation as if Sam were someone of royalty. Setting the pack he was carrying down Sam took a seat to rest his feet for a bit.

"That is unless you happen to know any songs from the shire? I'd be mighty grateful if you did."
bythewaves: (song)

Old nursery rhyme, found at http://www.collingsm.freeserve.co.uk/7/12.htm

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-04-10 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"On the contrary, Master" Maglor smiles at him, hands idly pulling notes from the strings. "All of Middle-earth has cause to be greatful to you. And as it happens, aye, I do! I learnt this in the Inn in Michael Delving, not that long ago, by my reckoning!"

Whistle or wassail about town,
Got any apples? Throw them down!
Cups white, ale brown,
Barrels made of ivy tree,
Come all you lads and drink with me.
Up the ladder and down the wall,
Half a peck will serve us all;
If you’ll buy eggs, we’ll buy flour
And we’ll have a pudding
As big as a tower!
his_gardener: (A true honest to God elf)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-14 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
"It's Mr. Frodo that everyone has to be thanking. Him and Aaragon, and Ghandalf, well there's the others too I suppose. Everyone did what they could."

Still Sam did sit back and listened, enjoying the sound of the music and the melody that Maglor played, it certainly was something he could hear being sung around drinks. Merry and Pippin certainly know it he was certain.
bythewaves: (childhood peace)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-04-14 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
"They did, but if the tales are half as true I think if not for you they would not have gotten anywhere near as far as they did. You all had a role to play, but do not disparage your own, Master Samwise! Your tale is one I will sing gladly to the end of my days, that all may know how courage looks like."

Maglor smiles, picking out the reels and dances of the lively hobbit pubs. Big Folk aren't allowed in any longer, of course, but Maglor never forgets a tune.
his_gardener: (Rain you s'pose)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-17 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
They were certainly pleasant tunes and it was clear that whoever this fellow was that he certainly knew how to play a tune on that instrument of his.

"I suppose that's not wrong, though I didn't do nothin' special. Just helped Mr. Frodo out of a few tight spots. Not something I figured too many would be singing about."

Everything that had happened was quite a bit for hobbits, after all they were usually a very quite and calm folk. Though it did sound nice to hear someone say his name in tone that was like the old stories.

"Actually it's a bit odd and all, people knowing my name when I don't have a clue as to who they are or what their names are."
bythewaves: (regard)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2015-04-17 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"But if not for you, I think your dear master would never have reached Orodruin." Maglor points out. "Sometimes, it is the small things that make up the big ones that matter, in the end."

He blushes a little and bows. "Ah! Your pardon, I have been terribly rude, aye. Maglor at your service, Master Samwise."
his_gardener: (You're awake)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-17 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
"It's no problem or anything, and you don't have to bow or nothing. It's just nice to know a fellow's name when you're talking to him. Besides I was the one who intruded so I was just as rude."

Really he wasn't sure how to take this, he just wanted to be Sam and treated normal like. Well with a bit of common decency that you would give any fellow but still nothing special like bowing or being called lord or master or nothing.

"But it's good to meet you Mr. Maglor. You have quite a fine instrument there."

I was just talking about how much I want a Sam

[personal profile] silvergift 2015-04-07 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
[She takes a walk everyday since she'd arrived. Lately though, she's aware that she has a Glorfindel-shaped shadow however distant he keeps. At least no one has tried keeping her locked up at the house where she'd be relatively safe considering everything that happens there.

Celebrían saw hobbits briefly when she'd gone to the Grey Havens but she'd never had the chance to really know any of them. It's enough that she recognizes him as one though.]

Greetings, Master Hobbit. You have only just arrived, I would guess?
his_gardener: (A true honest to God elf)

Happy I could be of service.

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-07 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well this hobbit certainly was humble even by hobbit standards, so it was not as if he was expecting to be recognized. But then to have an elf approach and speak to him, you'd think he would be more accustomed but it still left him a bit at a loss and nervous.]

Good afternoon miss. I am, arrived just this morning as it would have.

[Same half bowed his head, trying to be polite. He still wasn't quite sure of what one was supposed to say or do to greet someone with such elegance or courtly appearance.]
silvergift: art by <user name="white-rose-tree" site="deviantart.com"> ([042])

everyone was excited to see him

[personal profile] silvergift 2015-04-09 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
[She dips her own head politely in return, smiling. The train had passed earlier in the day, she recalls, but she hadn't looked who had disembarked. Now she wishes she'd taken the time to come and meet him sooner.]

Welcome to Ruby City then, master hobbit. I am Celebrían, I live just by the station.

May I walk with you?
his_gardener: (Look up to a lot of people)

Not too excited I hope.

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-10 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Samwise Gamgee at yer service. It would be an honor to have you walk with me, though I'm afraid I'm not quite certain where it is that I'm walkin' to.

[A real life elf wanting to walk with him, there was a time when this was all that Sam had dreamed of. Then things had changed quite a bit and many of his dreams had come true. Straightening himself up a bit he scratches the back of his head realizing how foolish that probably sounded.]

Is there somewhere you were heading I could escort you to?
silvergift: commissioned art by <user name="deathmetals" site="tumblr.com"> for me so Do Not Take ([052])

as excited as Sam's tend to get people, especially the good ones :)

[personal profile] silvergift 2015-04-10 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well met, Samwise. And that's more than alright, I was simply taking a walk myself. It does some good just to walk about sometimes.

[A light musical little laugh and she shakes her head.]

Do not worry for that. We can simply walk, it may help you learn your way around.
his_gardener: (A little hope)

^^; now I'm nervous

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-14 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
It is. Though it reminds me of something Mister Frodo said that Bilbo told him. It's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.

[When he had left the Shire with Frodo, it certainly wasn't an adventure that Sam had been planning for. But then you only got to see what was out there by walking there as well.]

I suppose it might.
silvergift: commissioned art by <user name="deathmetals" site="tumblr.com"> for me so Do Not Take ([007])

oh no, no need to be nervous, you're lovely!

[personal profile] silvergift 2015-04-15 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Hard not to smile. It is dangerous, going anywhere at all. She knows that well but what life would anyone live if they stayed right where they were safe all their lives?]

Bilbo sounds quite wise. I wish that I could meet him. [She's glad he agrees to walk with her.]

And where ever we end up, I will guide us back anywhere you like.
his_gardener: (Bless the stars)

Thank you.

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-17 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps one day. I'm looking forward to seeing him and Mr. Frodo again some day. Though I recon it will be sometime before that happens.

[Sam adjusts the pack on his back a bit to make certain he wouldn't fall behind once they got to moving again.]

I'll have to find a place to return to first. I doubt there's anyplace cozy on that platform, despite the helpful information they put up.
silvergift: commissioned art by <user name="deathmetals" site="tumblr.com"> for me so Do Not Take ([007])

[personal profile] silvergift 2015-04-17 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
It may be, I will not lie. Some people come here and stay some time while others remain for barely more than a few weeks.

[What good would lying about it have done anyway?]

You are more than welcome to stay with my family and I, if you like. Until you find a place to call your own.
his_gardener: (A true honest to God elf)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-17 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yes well they did sail off with Gandalf across the sea, and I was told I could join them some day. Once I was done with all that I had to do.

[At the offer Sam seems a little uncertain of the offer, he would love to but he didn't know much about who they were or if everyone else in the home would be alright with it.]

Thank you, though I wouldn't want to be a bother or nothing. That is I would appreciate it, but don't want to cause no problems with anyone else that might be staying with you. I wouldn't want to intrude.

Beleth spent plenty of time staring at the ground as she walked, so she managed to avoid bumping into the Hobbit--barely. She did have to hop back a little, and looked slightly embarrassed by it, starting to apologize, until she had a good look at the manner of person she had nearly avoided running into.

Like a dwarf...but even smaller. If he were a dwarf, he was no manner of dwarf she had ever seen before. Well, the other elves here are different enough from myself...though the dwarves of my world and theirs are similar, it stands to reason there might be yet another that differs? Airing on the side of caution, she didn't voice her wonders, but ducked her head apologetically.

"I beg pardon, I was lost in my thoughts. I trust I did you no harm?"
his_gardener: (Rain you s'pose)

Hi

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-10 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Sam scrambled a little to the side as well, keeping from falling on rear barely though the pots on his bag clanked quite a bit. Straightening himself up a bit he looked up at the elf, well she wasn't quite what he had seen before but really Sam didn't know too much about the elves.

"No, no harm done at all. Forgive me for not realizing you were distracted."
arlathvhen: (40)

[personal profile] arlathvhen 2015-04-11 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I should have been more careful." She replied easily, and ducked her head apologetically again. Glancing over him again, once she got over that he was no race she knew, she could take in some more details--He looked ready for a proper journey. His feet were far different than a dwarve's--Though his ears seemed more elven than anything. Odd, and curiosity got the better of her.

"Ser, if I may, what manner of race are you? Ah--Forgive me." Quickly, she bowed down. "My name is Beleth Lavellan, and I apologize if my question bothers."
his_gardener: (Bless the stars)

[personal profile] his_gardener 2015-04-14 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
"It's no bother miss. Seems that before that incident with the ring not many folk knew of Shire folk, or hobbits at all really. A hobbit, that's what I am. From the Shire, though I suppose that won't be much help 'round here."

It was clear that Beleth was an elf, though she was far different than those that Sam had met in Rivendell. Or at least he figured her for one, after a moment he realized that he hadn't properly introduced himself either and adjusted his pack.

"And my name is Sam, Samwise Gamgee."
