Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.


Scenarios


1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. CURRENT EVENTS - None at the moment, but feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

Maglor shrugs a little. "The Age of Men has little time and place for us. I sing the old tales still, but more and more, folk are forgetting us. My folk are sailling, or fading. We always knew this would be so but... it still hurts a little, to know that even the memory of us will be forgotten. Of course - different worlds, after all. I do not know what mine will come to, one day. But... I cannot see it being very different."

"But for a while" He murmurs softly. "For a little while, while the King of the Reunited Kingdom sits upon the throne, with the Evenstar of our people beside him as his Queen... yes. For a little while, folk will remember us. But the lives of Men are fleeting, and we will be forgotten again."

[nadenagi]

"You do not have to be, as long as you live, and want to be remembered, why not be so?" he asked, leaning back against nothing, seeming fearless at the height.

"If all you do is fret that things aren't changing, they aren't likely to change."

He leaned forward, hooking his heels on the rail to free a hand to touch the other's chest. "Trust your heart, trust the who you want to be."

Rhythm gave a thumbs up of agreement.

"And tell me, youngling, do you believe me?" Maglor crooks an eyebrow at him. "Folk even now relegate the tales to just that. Stories. While King Elessar reigns they will not, indeed, cannot forget. But I have seen it happen before, and it will again. I can tell the tales, but most are content to think them only stories. Even you, yourself, struggle to believe that I am anything other than a mortal, I think."

[nadenagi]

"Just because something is difficult doesn't make it not worth it," he said, then tried to think about how to say it better.

"Let's say it's more... I believe, I just have difficulty..." what was the word he wanted, ah yes, "comprehending."

[bythewaves]

He shrugs a little.

"I think on some level we always knew." He says softly "That we would have to step aside one day. It was always so - we are the Firstborn, and what else is our role, but to prepare the way for our younger kin? But I do not say that I will stop, Nagihiko. Mine is to remember, to sing the songs that all others forget. And whether Men believe me or no, I will keep singing."

"I suppose it will always be difficult to comprehend. But the youth and age of Men is a marvel for us, also. A marvel, aye... and a grief."

[nadenagi]

"If it helps any, adults tell me and my friends all the time that as kids we can't comprehend their ages. So it could be universal. So... songs?"

He leaned back again, feet wrapping the rail, hands the only other thing keeping him from falling back off the clock tower.

[bythewaves]

"Mmhmm. I make my living that way, these days - as a wandering bard. Once, I was accounted amongst the greatest bards of my people. Much of my skill was lost, but enough remains. I seldom lack for room and board."

[nadenagi]

"I might not have much to offer in return for the song... but would you accept a dance for it, culture for culture?"

[bythewaves]

"You are a dancer, Nagihiko?" Maglor smiles at him. "And Rhythm too? I would be honored, younglings. Is there anything in particular you wish to hear? Most of my songs are the great lays and tales, but I know many for joy and dancing, also."

"You play what you most wish to share. Though..."

He smirked a bit. "Maybe we should go somewhere with more space after, for the dancing."

YAY!

[bythewaves]

Maglor chuckles softly and stands, inhumanly graceful and silent as he crosses back across the railings.

"Then let us go down, and I will play you something suitable for dancing, hm?"

Re: YAY!

He hopped down from the rail easily and nodded. "Lead the way."

[bythewaves]

"This way then" Maglor leads them both down and out into the park, where there is soft grass underfoot and plenty of wide spaces.

"Here, I think" He smiles at Nagihiko and settles back against the trunk of an old oak.

"Let me see... one of the Hobbit songs, I think."

and then he starts to play

He followed, then listened for a bit. He glanced to Rhythm, who nodded. Headphones appeared around his neck as he bobbed to the music a bit, getting a feel for it. Once he had the feel, he begun a dance. Not a gentle delicate dance, like Nadeshiko would do, but something larger, more open, more dramatic.

He let the music control him, move him, rule and master him.

Hobbit songs are songs for family, for dancing, with quick beats and often silly lyrics, and Maglor is a master at his craft, so Nagihiko will find his work cut out for him, the music pushing and calling for him.

"Well done!" Maglor applauds with a smile when the song finishes with a flourish. "You dance very well, both of you."

[nadenagi]

Breathing hard, but grinning from ear to ear, they high fived each other, thrilled to bits.

"That was a blast!" he said happily, dropping to sit on the ground together.

"I am glad you enjoyed it." Maglor smiles at them both, stretching out the cramps in his scarred hand.

"The Hobbits were always good at catchy tunes for dancing."

[nadenagi]

He flopped back onto the grass, arms spread wide. "Not sure I know what a hobbit is."

[bythewaves]

"They are one of the races of Middle-earth, where I hail from." Maglor smiles at them. "A small people, roughly about half my height." He indicates his waist "They love good food and drink, a peaceful life, good song, and a good tale."

[nadenagi]

"That between high earth and low earth?" he asked, grinning up at the sky.

[bythewaves]

A low amused hum. "Not quite - but it does lie between Belegear, the Great Sea, and the deserts of Rhun and Harad, which is something of a middle, I suppose."

ugh. Too tired to make that sentance not be a run on. But you like Tolkien, so run ons are cool, lol

[nadenagi]

"Sounds very different from my world," he said; stretching out in the grass, letting the dew prickle through his clothing and not caring how dirty he was getting.

"I am not surprised." Maglor hums softly.

"They all seem so strange, to me, but familiar, also - as if through a glass, looking far off. I think my world is one of the youngest... or oldest, if you look at it another way."

[nadenagi]

"Oldest and youngest both?" he asked, glancing over. "Seems to me as paradoxical as being male and female both. Doesn't it have to be one or the other?" Nagihiko asked.

[bythewaves]

"I think it would depend on if you were looking back or forward, no?" Maglor shrugs. "For you, looking back, my world is very old, yes? A world long forgotten, lost in the far reaches of the past. But for me, looking forwards, we are very young. Why, we have only had the moon and sun for a little over six or seven thousand years."
