State of the City - JUNE

STATE OF THE CITY
June 2015

CR MEME AND TEST DRIVE INFO:

Our June test drive is up, ready and waiting for all of you lovely people to tempt more characters into our game! For now, we're running with the same format which has seemed to suit us well since it was first utilised, but we may switch it up in the future just to keep things fresh.

The CR Meme is also up and running for all of your general plotting needs. Why not start some CR up with someone new? You never know where it might take you.

METAPLOT INFO:
So what's going on with the city as a whole?
The Rumor War events have far-reaching consequences that aren't only restricted to the few days or weeks following their conclusions. Each event, and those NPCs whose influence over Ikaros and the city itself as a result, cause permanent alterations to the way that the city functions and its general appearance.

So far, an early win in the first Rumor War event by the Virtue of Charity gave the city rations a boost. Everything from food and gardening supplies, to clothes and weapons were made more plentiful. Charity doesn't discriminate, after all. A later win by Wrath increased the amount of firearms, ammunition and other weaponry available in the city, piggybacking onto Charity's overall climate effect. Most recently, victories by both Pride and Sloth restored the wall around the city and also supplied warmer, softer blankets and better quality materials for clothing (and stuffing pillows), giving an extra edge of comfort to the usual fare.

This month will offer some more opportunities to interact with NPCs. Several people have already taken the initiative to reach out, but their success has been varied. Most of our NPCs are still, unfortunately, very stubborn.

GAME FEEDBACK:
Hi there, Fi-mod here! I hope you are enjoying the new layout of the State of the City so far, but if you have any comments or feedback as to what you like/don't like or would like to see added, please let me know. This is something of an experiment for me after missing a few SotCs over the past couple of months (something which I can only apologise for) and I am hoping that it works well for everyone.

This month should be a fairly laid back one, to allow for any hiccups in this new plotting layout, but it should also prove to be more efficient in the future! Our next Rumor War event is slated for July and will be an action/comedy event, though the NPCs involved is a matter yet to be determined.

EVENT LIST FOR THE MONTH:
A playbook for your PCs

JUNE 5 to JUNE 6: IT CAME FROM BENEATH
Though it may have been overlooked by many, Atien Moore has been recently seen behaving very strangely in the vicinity of the river that leads down to the subterranean lake under the city. That lake, an unintended mystery kept from many, holds its own well hidden secret in the form of a large leviathan - Atien’s most precious pet and one he is very invested in keeping safe and protected from those who would no doubt feel more comfortable if it was no longer present.

Meanwhile, Mercy Holt is encountering her own special set of problems. The circumstances around her creation and the ‘fake memories’ planted in her mind thanks to the amount of fiction she absorbed through reading are both cumbersome and tiring to work through, leaving her more than a little drained. This fatigue isn’t without its effects beyond simple weariness. An instability in Envy’s ability to summon creatures both real and imagined is a direct result, leading to an outcome that none would have wished for and none can prevent.

On JUNE 5, 2015, a network post from Envy herself will be all the warning that the city gets. This post, in which it becomes profoundly obvious that Envy's slipping control is causing trouble for more than just herself, gives the city a day at the most to prepare for what is likely to be a disastrous event.

In the first hours following the post, all creatures connected to the waterways from the smallest fish to even the naiads and other water spirits will begin to act strangely, fleeing upriver as if trying to get away from something. Should anyone manage to get the attention of one of the naiads while they are on the move, they will say only that the creature below is coming and that everyone needs to run far, far away. Everything else seems to be indicating the same thing - the city isn’t safe, but just why it may not be safe at this particular time still seems unclear.

Other warning signs come along with the fleeing wildlife. Minor earthquakes shake the ground under the city and some of the surrounding plains, dislodging roof slates and knocking things from tables. Water itself begins to behave strangely, flowing in the wrong direction or rapidly fluctuating in temperature, taking on a brackish taste. Clouds begin to gather more quickly than they should and the downpour that ensues drenches anyone walking outside to the skin in moments.

Eighteen hours later, on JUNE 6, 2015, the noise begins - an unearthly wailing akin to the calling of whales, but far more guttural. As the accidental, uncontrolled summoning reaches its peak, the leviathan uses Envy herself as a mouthpiece before making an abrupt appearance above the ground, a little way outside of the northern edge of the city. He will not be happy to be there, and will cause some low to medium-level damage via flailing and general displeasure before awkwardly using his limbs to make as hasty a getaway as possible towards the sea.

Once released, Envy will be mimicking the powers of Sloth in order to put herself to sleep - both to negate further damage and to take her away from the trouble she has caused.

Naturally, several residents of the city will want to attack the creature and will not even be a little put off by its size. Leviathan, easily 100 metres in length and towering over the height of the city watchtowers, presents a formidable foe and isn't one to be easily taken down. There will be a window of several minutes in which attacks may be made on the beast before Atien steps in to save his pet, manipulating the time around it to give it a chance to get away. Don't be downhearted, fair citizens, this is not the last opportunity that you will have to face the leviathan... but Atien will need to be far more incapacitated before he allows anything to happen to his pet.

DEATH is possible in this event, with the usual week-long turnaround period.

JUNE 7 to JUNE 21: Reconstruction
The leviathan may be gone, for now, but it will still take a while for everything to go back to normal. The damage caused to the city will be mostly focused in the NORTH, and will be left to the city residents to repair. The homes in the BLUE zone, as well as nearby public buildings (except the black stone cathedral, which remains strangely unharmed) will take the brunt while those further south will suffer less, down to a few slates sliding from the roofs. We aren't in the habit of forcing severe residential damage on our players, but we certainly encourage anyone living in the danger zone to keep in mind that flailing tentacles with suckered tips the size of a medium-sized car can cause a lot of structural issues with a single direct hit.

Regardless, several people are likely to need the help of the clinic, and even more may need to request help in putting their homes back together. As well as offering many opportunities for charity and altruism, this aftermath will also present opportunities for those with fewer moral scruples to worry about.

It will take the upset wildlife a while longer to return, but perhaps an appeal to the ever-elusive NPCs will bring some much-needed assistance?

JUNE 22 to JUNE 30: Downtime
The final week of June will pass a little easier, with the spirit of generosity and giving spurring the city into shoring up the crumbling homes of their fellow captives and offering the homeless and injured their help in any way they can, not rifling through their ruined lives or the homes of the deceased for anything they might take for themselves.. right?

One can only hope.

STATE OF THE CITY:
Full Weather Report | Threat Report

WEATHER:
Despite the fast approach of summer, June is set to start out warm but wet, and is likely to stay that way throughout. While this is a good thing for some of the native wildlife, it is perhaps not such a good thing for those who might have lost the roof off their home (or their entire home). Temperatures are starting out low and quickly rising to hold steady at around 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit, with the wind blowing a steady breeze of around 10mph, mostly from southerly directions. Rainier days are likely to bring high, sticky humidity with drier ones offering some small reprieve.

The full moon will fall on June 2nd, and is called the Strawberry Moon.

ANIMALS AND BEASTIARY INFO:
All seems normal until the summoning, which will disrupt and upset the balance of things for a short while. Those creatures less able to rationalise what has happened - that is, those less given to sentience - will take a while to start venturing close to the northern part of the city again while those able to speak may come back sooner in order to ask questions.

The Wendigo problem has culminated in the possession of one of the city residents, and he may not be the first if the population is not culled down to a number which can be more easily controlled. Books in the library or experienced minds may offer ideas or solutions as to how to take the creatures down.

CLOSING:
Thank for for your attention! Given that this is the first attempt at this new layout, the kind of feedback I'm looking for is mainly centred around layout and content - do you think something should move somewhere else, something should be added or something isn't really necessary? Give me a heads up and I will take it into consideration.

Please note that Rumor War Events, while being briefly outlined in posts such as these, will be given their own plotting posts due to their importance and scope, as well as the fact that they tend to fall later in the month.

Diarmuid gained the ability to talk to animals (and understand them) from the Fairy Tale event vial. Would he get any kind of interesting info if he talked/listen to some of the wildlife once things start happening?

Also, would the Leviathan itself count as an animal he could talk to? Because isn't that a great idea?

I was going as person could understand a person since that is how it worked for him during the fairy tale event and that is what the vial power was based off.

Awesome! Thank you very much for the answer. Bad Idea: Try to talk to the Laviathan is a go!

Question! Since arachne can talk to the spiders, how do they react, and do they warn her? What do they know?

Poor Edgeworth will probably end up fainting during the earthquakes. Would someone like to help him and get him to safety? After he has recovered, he'll be willing to help with shelter supplies and get injured to the clinic or other safe places.

Komaeda will be recovering from his injuries after Wendigo!America attacked him. So I doubt he will be able to do much in the event unless the clinic is attacked? He might also make unhelpful motivation post on the network.

If anybody would know what happens to Edgeworth during earthquakes, it's this dude, right here.

Not necessarily related to the event, but after Hiroshi's run-in with the Wendigo-possessed America, he may be EXTREMELY interested in researching what's going on, if anybody else wants to help out with that.

Diarmuid will help if you would like! Especially if the research phase hits the point of going out and actually dealing with some of them. He'd be some good strength and fighting ability to have along to help out.

That would definitely be helpful. Hiroshi's a thinker/survivor, not a fighter.

/thumbs up. He's here to help however he can! Especially if he hears about what happened. This is something that needs to be taken care of now before anyone else gets hurt.

Vergil is also horribly curious, if only because he suspects this place to be basically another demon world (or worse, the work of a God-level demon that just likes screwing with people).

I think he'll want to know everything he can so that he can be as prepared as possible for whatever's ahead, so he might show interest in this?

Electricity Project

[personal profile] shwarm_after 2015-06-01 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yo, the Leviathan attack might put the electricity project on hold until mid/end Jun as it's probably not safe to make a nuclear reactor while the ground is shaking and the buildings are in disarray. Until then, we should all plot on how the electricity project will work out? Who wants to actually listen to Tony's plans also who's willing to put up with him and who would have input?

The ultimate plan is to make an Arc Reactor that should sustain the city for quite while which Tony hasn't revealed quite yet, but he will soon! C:

Any ideas/thoughts/input on how this should all work out would be great /o/

Eddie is all in for this. He's built generators and reactors before. He's bored without his technology and really needs something to do to keep his hands busy so he stops collecting a resistance. (honestly tech won't make him stop. nope)

Eddie can also generate short bursts of electricity, which could potentially help as well :D
