October Test Drive!

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!

[Kakyoin had to very quickly force back a laugh at that; he'd thought Polnareff lacked subtlety, but in just a few sentences he'd been blown completely out of the water.]

His name is Hierophant Green. [Put at ease both because Okuyasu didn't seem seriously hurt and because a fight didn't look likely, Kakyoin handed the map back to him.] And mine is Noriaki Kakyoin. I'm not looking for a fight--to the contrary, it's nice to meet you.

[Okuyasu looks at Hierophant again, more obviously - it's ogling, honestly, now that Hierophant has already done a cool thing and Kakyoin isn't going to try to kill him or turn him into paper or anything. The Hand lingers beside him, just chilling. No fight, huh? Sounds good.]

I just fell on my ass, man. At least let me get up first. [That's good-natured, just really, let him get on his feet before the Manners start. He does pull himself up from the ground, adding as he dusts himself off,] Y'already met The Hand... I'm Okuyasu Nijimura.

[He puffs up a bit when he says that, with an undertone of And don't forget it!! that's really just there out of habit. A mini-pose, maybe.]

So, like, what else does your Stand do?

Come on, I'm not going to give everything away in the first five seconds.

[Hierophant's arm pulled itself back together into an actual limb, the Stand taking a position half-hidden behind Kakyoin and looking over his shoulder.]

What about yours? That was quite the trick you just pulled, Nijimura--what was it, exactly?

[Okuyasu deflates a little, like a kid who's just been told he can't eat his entire birthday cake in one sitting. Duuuude, come on!

This moment of real heartbreak passes, though, and he puts his hands on his hips and looks proudly at The Hand. What about that cool trick, huh. That's right.]

Teleporting! [a beat] Sort of... The Hand can delete stuff, so if I swipe away some space- [He holds up his hands, meaning to mime "swiping away space" but honestly it just looks like clapping off to the left. Good effort.] -bam! Then I'm over there.

You can call me Okuyasu, by the way.

That's-... [-actually extremely impressive. It vaguely reminded him of that one Stand Polnareff had mentioned, the one belonging to Vanilla Ice. Whether it was similar or not, it didn't seem like the kind of thing one would want to be on the wrong side of.] ...fascinating. Is it just short-range? Most of the Stands I've seen lately don't have much range to them.

Oh--you can just call me Kakyoin, everyone does.

Uh... I guess so? [He's very informed - rather, he hasn't needed to think about this, as straightforward as his Stand's abilities are and with his own preference for simple, good ol' fisticuffs fights.] As long as his arm, pretty much.

[He scratches the side of his neck, like, yep... that's about it.]

But The Hand's pretty fast, too. Sucks that he can't do that sweet stretchy thing you just pulled, though.

Hierophant's reach extends just about fifty meters. He's quick, but we're more efficient at a distance.

No shit. [50 fucking meters!!] So you can do, like, sniper shit? That's awesome!

[Actually that would have come in way handy in long-distance putting down a serial killer instead of having to, y'know, actually engage him in person... but that's something for someone more thoughtful to consider, not Okuyasu. Hierophant is Cool.

Not as cool as, say, Crazy D, but we can't do the impossible just by being stretchy. Okuyasu starts to say something more, but then a detail Kakyoin dropped catches up with him only a little delayed-]

Hang on, who's been using Stands "lately?" Not somebody shady, is it?

I suppose I could, but I've never really tried quite that approach. [More shotgun than sniper rifle, but...that actually wasn't a bad idea. Kakyoin quietly filed it away for later consideration.]

Oh--actually, there's quite the collection of Stand users here. [He adjusted his sunglasses, frowning in what almost looked like confusion.] We've been lucky so far...I don't understand how, but for now none of the ones I've met have been hostile. Yourself included, at least so far.

[Yes, he is SO SMART. He gives himself a moment to nod enthusiastically, encouraging Kakyoin to... snipe something, someday. Do it somewhere he can see, as a bonus.

In terms of the mystery Stand users, though, he has two priorities. Kakyoin has taken care of the first one without his asking; none of them are hostile so far, that's good. He's had enough of them for a while yet. The other priority is just as simple:] Any of them Josuke Higashikata? Or Koichi Hirose? Koichi's supposed to be on vacation, though...

[but like. he never got on a ghost train(???), so maybe...]

I'm afraid I've never heard either of those names before, as far as I can recall. I take it they're friends of yours?

Yeah, [his reply comes a little bit glum, like damn, now what does he do here without the #crew... but he perks up again.] And they're seriously in for it if they really ditched me here.

Sorry about that. It ends up being a little random in regards to who ends up here. Let me think...

[Taking quick inventory of his fellow Stand users in is head, Kakyoin decided it probably wouldn't be any real problem to name them off. Okuyasu didn't exactly seem like a threat.]

There's Bruno Buccellati, Giorno Giovanna, Guido Mista, Leone Abbacchio, then myself and Jotaro Kujo. [Leaving out Johnny for the moment, because frankly Kakyoin didn't even know where to start with Johnny Joestar.]

[There isn't a speck of recognition for anyone among that first set of names from Okuyasu. His brow furrows slightly, but it's only because they sound... kind of Italian... and can they cook??

--but he all but lights up at Jotaro's name. Not the Jojo he had in mind, but STILL GOOD...] Mr. Jotaro's here, really? You know him?

[He might be--like he is, but he did catch that Kakyoin listed himself and Jotaro separately from the mystery Italians.]

...Wait, what? How on earth do you know Jotaro?

[You could just hear the record scratch.]

There's no way you go to the same school as us, is there? [Because...well. Mind controlled or not, Kakyoin was pretty sure he'd have known if there was another Stand user that close by.]

[Okay: what the fresh hell.]

You joking? Unless you're from Morioh and Mr. Jotaro secretly failed high school for like, ten years, [he has no idea how old Jotaro actually is but GOOD ENOUGH?] then nah. Don't think so.

[This all could be summarized as "no duh??" as far as his tone goes.]

I've never been to Morioh, what do you mean ten y-...?

[...oh.]

Wait. What year was it where you came from?

I mean he's old, dude! Even if he wears a uniform around still-- [a raised eyebrow here, and, conspiratorially behind his hand:] Weird, by the way.

[But the other things about Jotaro are cool...]

It's- [Kakyoin faltered, adjusting his sunglasses again and trying to ignore the implications that Okuyasu recognized Jotaro and yet had no idea who Kakyoin was.]

This place, er...time tends to have a little less meaning here, you see. When we left, it was 1988. Jotaro and I are both just high school students.

[Well that takes the wind out of his sails a little. Not that he doesn't believe it - you don't go far as a Stand user without believing in the impossible at least somewhat - but dang, a high school version of Jotaro won't know who he is. Damn.]

Oh. No fooling? [hmm.] Aw, shit, so it's just me and me.

I wasn't even in school in 1988. That's pretty surreal.

You're telling me--we'd both be almost thirty by then. [Specific circumstances notwithstanding.]

Old, [he confirms with a grin. But not as old as JOSUKE'S DAD, which, speaking of--]

Josuke's his uncle or something? To be honest, I'm still trying to get my head around that.
