[January] Test Drive

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

Course I do. [Ah, the self assurance of youth.]

Uh, yeah. It's not like it'd make a good pet. And I'm kinda hungry.

[He laughs softly, straightening up and standing. Briefly, he rubs a hand over her shoulder.]

Okay, we'll take it back with us. Can't be too hard to cook it, right?

[She's slow to follow him up, holding the crab far out from her chest. She smiles, brief and pleased at the touch.]

Stick anything in a fire long enough and it'll fry. [A shrug.] What were you doing out here, anyway? Lookin for something?

[He keeps half an eye on her while they walk, one hand tucked into his pocket and the other lax to catch her if she stumbles on the sand.]

For somethin'? Mm-nn. I like to look at the ocean. Looks different every day.

[She spins around, trying to walk backward and squinting at the shoreline.] Huh? I've never noticed. Just looks like a lot of water to me. I get wanting to look at water, that's more than I've seen ever. But.

[She looks at him over her shoulder, eyebrows raised.]

[Looking back down at her, he lifts both eyebrows in a playful mimic of her expression.]

I'll teach you. We can come back again tomorrow, if you want to. Bring SP. Build a sand castle or somethin'.

[She snorts out a laugh and turns around, stumbling just a little.]

I don't have any plans. [The grin says she'll love to.] Pony will probably love it, so I guess we should.

So she's not the one from back-- that's okay. It's okay. It's a weird feeling, and it causes his smile to falter, very faintly, for just a second. But he's just happy to see her.

He leans a bit, one hand on his knee and another held out for hers.

"S' Show Pony, lil' bee. Don't recognize me?"

She takes a good long moment to study him, cataloging every difference from the same man she'd seen what felt like only hours ago. She shook her head slowly, letting her hand drop into his. She frowns, looking around him like she's expecting someone else to be with him.

"No," she finally answers, "You look.... different. Very different. I don't understand. I just saw you a while ago."

That stings a little. But, still, it's okay. It's just how it works.

He grips her hand, gently, helping her out of hiding.

"S' complicated. Tell you all about it, but let's get ya outta this cold first."

"Okay."

She lets him pull her away from the buildings, squeezing his hand a little tighter once she's out on the sidewalk.

"You have a place close by?"

Fun Ghoul hasn't been in the city all that long, but he already knew how to navigate the streets. That was mostly because he'd been stalking up and down the different pathways since he arrived, trying to find the others, trying to find a way out, trying to find something that at least felt like the Zones. Even if this city wasn't Bat City it put him on edge. He kept expecting a drac to pop out from around any corner.

It's because he's so on edge that his free hand moves to where his raygun is tucked into the back of his jeans the moment he feels someone touch his arm, but it's years of practice that keeps him from drawing it.

He feels his heart leap into his throat as he turns his head, eyes wide.

"Kiddo?"

She's on him the second the words are out of his mouth, slinging her arms around his. She's creeped out enough by the place that she doesn't care about acting like the scared baby she is. Besides, his is the first friendly, and familiar face she's seen since arrival. Her reaction is only compounded by everything she's seen before arrival.

"Ghoul," she says, pitched in a mix of relief and nerves. She swallows heavily to try to combat the shaky tone, squeezing his arm. "I thought I was the only one here in this freaky place. How are you eve- when did you get here?"

"Yea'."

With a little luck, his smile won't creep her out. There's love and caring in his eyes, but also some sadness. It's a weird mess of feelings.
He brushes his hair back with his free hand, looking down the street like he isn't sure where he is. Or like he's expecting someone to show up. But he looks at her, smiles again, and starts walking.

"So, huh..." How could he even ask this?

" How long you been out 'ere?"

She glances up at him and then back toward the street a few times, antsy and skin itching with nervous energy. She tries to focus on keeping her steps in time with his, even when everything in her is screaming to take off running until she hits sand again. If he's calm, she thinks she needs to at least act like she is.

"A few hours?" She's not sure and it shows on her face. She had started running once she realized she was here, not home, and hadn't bothered to keep track of the time. Her skin wasn't that cold, a sure sign that she hadn't been outside nearly as long as she thought. "I want to ask that about you. Since you look different and all."

"It's...complicated, too." A long time. He's been away from home for a long time. A little over a year, though it feels longer than that.

"But we can dig into it when we get somewhere warm."

He wants to know the last thing she remembers. How far back he needs to reach - what he should tell her. Honestly, he figures that Cola should do most of the talking, he's better at that. But, if he has to, he'll do it.

"S' not far from 'ere."

"Okay." Her tone suggests she's excepting that for now, but its not an answer she likes. She wants to press the issue because her mind's trying to fill in the blanks, figure how tie enough could pass for him to be different, for them to end up some place decidedly not in the Zones. None of her theories sound good and she'd rather not keep thinking about them, freak herself out again.

"Just." Not far suggests they're not leaving this city, or at least not going far from it. Another thing she doesn't like. If it Bat City, if it was BLI controlled, she knows he would have told her to run from the get-go. She knows that. Still, she's worried. "Pony. Are we safe," she stops and gestures around them vaguely, "out here?"

Remus.

[Give him a moment, it's not every day one is greeted by a teenager from the past. At least it is Lupin. Out of that particular bunch he'd rather have to deal with him than either Potter or Black.]

You're looking rather ...young. By all means, please explain why it is so complicated.

"That's kind of you."

Unnecessary, but kind, and he might as well take her up on it. A good cup of tea was never a thing to be thought of as charity.

"I don't see why we can't at least be civilised while discussing the situation. This way, I know just the place."

[She doesn't quite answer his chatter, but makes a soft sound of amusement to at least indicate that she's listening. His concerns and queries are novel in themselves, but not so different to ones she might have thought of herself did she not know better.]

I am inside that building, yes. The door is open, I will heat some water for tea if that is to your taste.

[He might need it, after he sees her.]

"Used for a fire," he confirmed, though in a way he supposed it was both. This was just becoming more and more puzzling - what kind of place didn't have something as simple as firewood?

"Guess they're trees. Cut up trees." Cola rubbed the back of his neck. "Don't have trees where you're from?"

You haven't seen how dramatic he can be when he gets wet sand in his hair.

[And you might, Girl, because it's funny.]

Rock pools further up. We can look at those.

[A quiet laugh] Rodger then. We'll love it.

More leggy things to catch?

Toriel didn't know any better than the girl where they were, except to the train station signs, but she was making the most of it. It was clearly not the Underground and that was the most important thing at the moment. And the fact that she wasn't here because the barrier had been broken. That was good. In a way. It meant though that no one in the RUINs would keep an eye on any fallen children in her place.

She was caught up enough that she missed the hand reaching out for her. The girl will feel warm fur under her fingers and it was enough to stop the monster in her tracks to look-

Oh.

A child.

"Hello little one." She started gently. "From what I have read, it is called Ruby City." Which... didn't help either of them very much but a name was a start.

She nodded and smiled. "Thank you," she said simply, and followed him. She looked around as they walked, letting him speak or not speak as he chose for the moment. Not pushing, not pressing on him. She kept half her attention on him, and the other half on their surroundings. The way things had been when they left, and her such an obvious mutant, she was alert for danger. She would not have him hurt just for being in her presence.
