[April] Test Drive!

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

Kenshi | Mortal Kombat

[personal profile] blindswordsman 2016-04-07 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
((ooc: Here's some Visual Reference! ))

He had no idea where he was. He just knew he wasn't where he was supposed to be.

When he had awoken, he recognized the feel instantly of being on a moving vehicle. A train. The swaying and sounds were unmistakable. He had been incredibly groggy and disoriented...and so consciousness tended to drift. However when he did wake up enough to call out and search for anyone else - he discovered soon enough that he was alone. Save for an uneasy feeling of being watched. Something was there, but he couldn't physically find them.

When the train pulled in at its destination, Kenshi didn't hesitate on getting off, though he was instantly hit with a blast of cold air and wet. Snow. There was no point in remaining on the train and getting no answers so the blind swordsman pushed ahead stubbornly. He cut a tall figure - roughly around an inch or two above 6 feet. He was of Asian descent with bronzed skin and short dark hair. He had a lean though athletically muscular physique. He moved like someone accustomed to combat. Any warrior would be able to spot the signs. His clothing was close fitting but comfortable - lightly armored and in dark colors trimmed in red. The most distinctive things about him was the sheathed Japanese style sword on his back and the red blind fold tied across his eyes. The ends dangled down his back.

Judging by the sounds and the stone pave beneath his feet, he knew he was in a settlement. Unlike the train, he could sense others near by. It didn't take him long to start shivering in the cold, though he didn't appear to acknowledge it or complain. His steps were even and deliberate as he strained all his senses to get an idea of his environment or possible danger.

Hopefully he'd find some answers. And a warmer spot to regroup.

Have Kaylin!!!!!!!!

[personal profile] kaylinneya 2016-04-07 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
She could recognize the signs of someone else well accustomed to combat. The weaponry helped, frankly. She had no clue what the ****s was up with the blindfold, but she didn't care. She was going to keep this place safe while she was here. Someone had talked about implementing a more structured legal system. She for one, was all for it. Until then? She was basically going off of Elantran laws.

And that meant that this man could be trouble. But he could also be not. She was trained how to handle this situation.

"Did you need some assistance?" she asked. There was authority in her voice, but no threat. Strength without challenge. Kaylin couldn't lie for *****. and her voice and face gave away her thoughts, nearly always; however she could, when she focused, be a Hawk, speak and look and act as she was trained.

It seldom lasted long.

Kenshi's stance was wary...not sure of the speaker's intentions at first. His intention wasn't to fight, but he would if necessary. It would have been a lot better if he wasn't all ready so disoriented. She sounded authoritative at least. Perhaps a soldier or law enforcement. Someone he could get answers from.

In the past, Kenshi would have shirked such an offer. But being prideful and arrogant cost him much in the past. His sight included. He had humbled a lot since then. He inclined his head slightly towards the voice in a slight nod.

"A warm place to regroup would be nice. And some answers." He said matter-of-fact. "I have no idea where I am or how I got here."

"No one does when they arrive. Unless they've been here before. This is Ruby City. As for warm places, I'd recommend a restaurant or the bar. I can help you find either, if you need."

No. No, she can't. What she can help you do is get lost. Terribly terribly lost. Kaylin had been here longer than she cared to count, and she still got lost. Of course, she still got lost whenever she had to go somewhere in Elantra that wasn't part of her beat or one of her usual stops.

"That would be appreciated actually." Kenshi gave a curt nod at the offer to find a restaurant or a bar. "This is a city? It's pretty quiet for one..."

Disturbingly quiet. The swordsman had never been in a city that wasn't buzzing with activity or the energies and minds of people.

"It gets busy enough." She turned and started walking. She presumed that the blindfold was affectation, and that he could see just fine. He didn't offer, she didn't ask. "We're all here against our will, really. We all step off that ***** train, wind up here. No way home. We've been making the best of it."

It was the blindfold that got her attention. The dark clothes came after, but it was the blindfold, really, that started everything. After all, Kairi couldn't look at a blindfold any more without smiling. They reminded her of Riku's struggles, and she smiled because he won that combat with his own heart. Because they were together again, and stronger than ever. Or had been, before she wound up here.

And she was Kairi. So the fact that he was armed, and quite possibly dangerous didn't phase her in the slightest. She bounded over and stopped in front of him with a bright friendly smile. "Hi, are you new here also?"

Kenshi stopped walking the moment he heard light footsteps approaching him at a quick pace. He stood still, non-threatening, but ready to defend himself if he had to. The voice sounded like a young girl. A teenager perhaps? The main thing was that her tones sounded like she was smiling. She at least sounded friendly.

"If you mean 'new' as in just getting off of a train...then yes." He said in answer to her question. His own tones light as he tilted his head slightly. "Where am I?"

"I'm not sure. The signs say Ruby City, but that doesn't really answer very much. I've never seen any place quite like it before. But at least it smells like there might be an ocean around here somewhere."

To Kairi that salt in the air was unmistakable. It was home.

Kenshi nodded. He could catch the scent she was referring to, though not as strong as one in a port city.

"Are you new to this place too?" He asked, tones polite.

"That would be why I asked you if you were new too," she said brightly. Sora got the whole "preserve the worlds' borders" speech. Kairi? Not so much. She put her hands behind her back and bounced on her heels slightly. "Well. We might as well start exploring, right?"

Clearly, this wasn't Lind. There wasn't a doubt or a question in the least. This wasn't Lind. But something about the man reminded Skuld of the Valkyrie that was now a friend. She had been sitting at the station, trying to plot how to dismantle the train, when he stepped off, and by the time she looked at the train again. It was gone.

Something distracted her every time she came to take the thing apart. Not cool, city. Not cool.

Well. She might as well help the newcomer out. It's what Belldandy would want her to do. She bounced over, smelling like gear oil and ice cream and goddess. "Welcome to Ruby City. Do you need any help finding anything?"

Something felt different about the one who approached him. He had thought he was being followed, but he wasn't expecting them to approach and speak to him. He kept his stance neutral, though he was balanced on his feet in case he'd have to move quickly.

Ruby City? He didn't recognize the name, nor did he remember getting on the train that brought him here. What the hell happened?

"Somewhere warm would be nice." He answered the girl's question, another shiver moving through him. "Somewhere to get my bearings. I don't know how I got here..."
manga_goddess_skuld: (Pensive)

[personal profile] manga_goddess_skuld 2016-04-07 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Somewhere warm. Got it!" she said happily. She considered. She loved how much stronger her magic was becoming here, but it still... needed help. "Do you want the fast way, or the long way?"

She was getting better with her water teleports. Okay, so she hadn't tried to bring anyone with her yet, but really, what was the worst that could happen?
blindswordsman: (Head Tilt)

[personal profile] blindswordsman 2016-04-08 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well she definitely was cheerful. Kenshi still wasn't sure if this was an actual city. He'd never been in one so quiet.

"What ways are we talking here?" She was strange, but at least she was friendly.

"Well, we could water teleport, or we can walk. I've never tried water teleporting with someone else before!" It would be fun to learn if she could!
