Event Pre-Planning for July 2016 • "Stand By Me"

Hello, Ruby City!

Much like we did with May’s event, July’s event requires some pre-planning on your part! All we need you to do is to very carefully look over the descriptions below, and select one tarot card that you feel best suits your character’s personality, then comment below using our handy provided form. If you can’t decide on one, or simply don’t wish to opt in--that’s alright! Your character will still have plenty of opportunities to engage in this event.

This opt-in opportunity will remain OPEN until 11:59 on June 30th. The rest of this event’s details will be released when the SotC goes up, along with our usual announcements. We can't spoil the surprise, after all!

THE FOOL - 0

The Fool card is characterized by naïevety and near-childish purity. People under the card of the Fool are typically innocent and trusting to some extent, and this may lead them to be manipulated and made into a joke, hence the card’s name.

THE MAGICIAN - I

The card of the Magician is a unique one: typically regarded as the most powerful, it symbolizes wisdom, creativity, and just a universal feeling of making something out of nothing. People under the Magician are typically cunning and aware of their surroundings, though their downfall is often in their condescending personality and pride.

THE HIGH PRIESTESS - II

The High Priestess is nothing if not wholly spiritual: she represents divinity and the search for answers, and as such, people of the High Priestess are typically seen as flighty or having their head in the clouds. They rely primarily on instinct to reach the answers they want, and despite their somewhat absent-seeming appearance, they have a will as hard as diamond.

THE EMPRESS - III

Most people tend to think that any emperor or empress is cold and uncaring, but the card of the Empress defies that in her infinite generosity and love for her people. People of the Empress are typically motherly, kind, and caring, and will help anyone that asks. Aside from this, the Empress card suggests well-cultivated talents and a deep understanding of oneself.

THE EMPEROR - IV

Contrary to the Empress card, people under the Emperor's influence are often seen as being warlike and rational: true leaders at heart. They often are forced to make sacrifices in the true fashion of an Emperor, and are suited for this task due to their intensely focused mindset and cold sense of logic. Ultimately, though, they want what’s best for the greater amount of people: the Emperor card symbolizes a strong but caring ruler.

THE HIEROPHANT - V

The Hierophant card is generally associated with teaching and learning, and naturally encompasses curious scholars of all kinds. They place a high value on knowledge and faith, and prefer to “play by the book”. People of this card are often community leaders, literal teachers, or perhaps just people that convey respect and order.

THE LOVERS - VI

While the name of the card suggests inherent romantic traits, the Lovers are also strongly associated with general passion for any subject and a feeling of being grounded. Those suggesting this card are strongly rooted in their beliefs and rely on their loved ones just as their loved ones rely on them. While often flirtatious, this isn’t their defining trait by any means.

THE CHARIOT - VII

The Chariot is an inherent symbol of victory and conquest, and so people represented by it are often strong-willed and violent by nature. These people will do any deed to reach their goals, though they usually tend to lean to the side of good. Assertive, boisterous personalities define a person of the Chariot card, as they are often the loudest voice in a room.

STRENGTH - VIII

At a first glance, one might assume that Strength is a more bold and active card like the Emperor or the Chariot, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Those of the Strength card lead by example, exercising their compassion and self-control regularly, and often take the role of parents or role models. They are very patient and kind with other people.

THE HERMIT - IX

The Hermit is characterized by the concept of being alone but not feeling alone. Hermits are often wise beyond their years, and seek to light the way for others to follow behind them. They are patient teachers that have been around the block a few times, so to speak, and fully enjoy the process of sharing their wisdom with others. While usually on the older side, this isn’t always the case.

THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE - X

Jokes about Vanna White aside, the Wheel of Fortune symbolizes progress and moving up in the world. Those of this card are often positive thinkers who seek to move forward and gain more experience, and are often in touch with their environment and abilities, and feel as though they have achievable and realistic goals, often realizing their dream job or other statuses.

JUSTICE - XI

One of the more straightforward cards, Justice symbolizes reaching a fair and true conclusion based on the given facts. People under the card of Justice are very objective and rational thinkers, judging wholly impartially in order to find the unaltered truth. They hold themselves and everyone around them to the same standard of total accountability.

THE HANGED MAN - XII

The Hanged Man is less depressing than its title would suggest. This card is strongly associated with humbleness and putting others first, often to the point of unnecessary self-sacrifice. Those representing the Hanged Man can provide a unique perspective to events that can be useful for any given situation, but one must be cautious with their dangerous desire to destroy themselves.

DEATH - XIII

“Death is not the end” is a popular saying, and this especially rings true with this specific card. While Death is traditionally associated with abuse and addictions, there’s also a strong connotation with new beginnings and putting the past behind oneself. To represent the card of Death is not inherently a bad thing, it just means that one has recently turned a new leaf of their life.

TEMPERANCE - XIV

Temperance is all about middle ground, and it shows in those who represent it. They live to compromise, and often are the peacekeepers of whatever group they’re in. Being with them can even the most unstable person out, as they provide a levelheadedness to any situation that can often be hard to find in just anyone.

THE DEVIL - XV

True to its name, the Devil card can only lead down bad roads for anyone who shares its symbolism. Pessimism, addiction, and a desire to over-control are the core values that suggest the Devil card, along with a dangerous amount of ambition. No doubt about it, those under this card are people to steer very clear of.

THE TOWER - XVI

While the meaning is not inherently clear in the name of the card, The Tower is a damning symbol of sudden, violent change. This manifests in people who undergo frequent mood swings, as well as those who simply experience a fair amount of rage on a daily basis. Emotional upheaval in general suggests the Tower card.

THE STAR - XVII

Often seen as outcasts of society, people representing the Star card are in-tune with both nature and themselves, and often possess a special kind of calm that suggests a storm boiling underneath. They are hard to surprise and harder to truly frighten, making them good leaders and fighters in any setting they occupy.

THE MOON - XVIII

The Moon symbolizes fear and confusion. In people, this shows as a strong paranoia and air of mystery, often tagging along with an overactive imagination. These people are oddly difficult to get along with, but they possess a strong charisma that makes one want to get to know them, despite the difficulties.

THE SUN - XIX

Contrary to the Moon, the Sun card is all about enlightenment and revealing of information. People of this card are strong and healthy in both mind and body, and have the same kind of charisma as the Moon, drawing people in with their kind personalities. Children often suggest the Sun, though this is simply due to their undying optimism.

JUDGEMENT - XX

Not to be confused with Justice, Judgement is characterized by taking a stand for oneself and dropping a heavy burden. People of Judgement are decision-makers and inciters of change, no matter their age or status. They seem to be ready for absolutely anything that comes their way, and often serve as an inspiration for their loved ones.

THE WORLD - XXI

Wrapping up the end of the Tarot deck, the World symbolizes completion and finality. As implied by the name, this card represents a traveler of the world, a well-spoken individual with large amounts of charisma and charm. Much like the Earth’s gravity, they can draw anyone in and convince them to do their bidding. The World is truly the end-all be-all of the tarot, and possibly the most volatile card.
