[AUGUST] Test Drive

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?
Have no fear, a meme for you is here.
Directions:
- Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.
- Post with your character with their name and canon on top!
- If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.
- Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.
Locations
1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.
Scenarios
1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!
oh nooooo
And insincere.
He follows Frisk's signing--he's a robot, he knows many languages--and remains silent as he takes in the explanation. Hmm, so Sans was here? It's a shame he's gone. Mettaton could have used his agent. But this will suffice for now.
He has a little bit of a bone to pick with this human.]
How fascinating!! It's so wonderful to know that I'm being exposed to the surface, after all that has happened.
[The smile widens, if possible.]
Naturally, you must know I cannot stay. I have responsibilities to the Underground!! So tell me how to get home.
[Something about the way he said it didn't really sound like a request as much as an order.]
oh yesssssssssss
I think you'll like it. It's not like the Surface back home, everyone is really nice. I bet you'll like my friends, Chassie and Amelia. They'll like you, everyone does!
[Because everyone totally loves Mettaton, right?
Right.]
We can't go home, nobody knows how or if they do, they won't say. I would have gone home to mom already if I could. Oh! You can have Sans' apartment, I kept it clean. It might just be a little dusty and I never went in his room so I don't know how mess it is.
no subject
He's quite sure they would! But how dare Frisk tease him with such information, after...after the state he'd left the Underground in due to his murder--intentional? Accidental? Mettaton didn't care--of so many important monsters.
One fist balled up, the glove making a subtle sound as the fabric stretched around Mettaton's metal fingers.]
How...inconvenient that is.
[He might have left it there, except for one thing--Frisk actually suggesting he stay in Sans' old apartment?!]
Beautiful, are you making fun of me? Why would I stay in an apartment when I. Am a king?
no subject
[That they can't go home, that Frisk doesn't know more, that it's just the two of them now. The list could go on.
There's one big thing that sticks out, though Frisk wants to comment on everything, that makes it impossible for him to not look confused. His face scrunches up; no matter how much he likes Mettaton, and that everyone undergound loves him, he can't really think of the robot as a king.]
How can you be king when Asgore's the king. Are you a boss monster too and you never told me?
no subject
Of course I'm not a boss monster, What are you talking about, you killed the only remaining boss monsters in the Underground!!
[He looks irate that Frisk doesn't recall. Clearly it hadn't been all that important to them.]
no subject
I DIDN'T KILL NOBODY!
[huff huff]
Flowey said it was kill or be killed but I don't like hurting people.
no subject
[Mettaton says it coldly. He knows this human. This human knows him. He looks the same as Mettaton remembers him.
...Maybe it was a dream. Maybe being king wasn't real. The robot looks down at his own hands, as if to find some inconsistency in his outfit. But there isn't. Same cape, same gloves. Same everything.]
You're lying, because Asgore would be alive if he hadn't faced you! I know this! Do you intend to tell me that all of my memories are fabricated?!!
no subject
Nuh-uh! I went to talk to him and mom came and stopped us because she didn't want me to have to live with killing someone. We just found another way to break the barrier! He even cuts the bushes and stuff now at my school!
[And to finish, like any child, Frisk just sticks his tongue out at Mettaton.]
no subject
That entire phone call from before? A lie. A fabrication to hide how ugly Mettaton was, and how much he'd fucked up the Underground. And Frisk wouldn't even answer for it?! This was on their shoulders, and they didn't. Even. Remember?!]
The barrier isn't broken...it was never broken!
[He tries to sound aggressive as he had when he'd called the boy a liar. But the creeping self-doubt was starting to take hold, and it made him sound a little desperate. Was he wrong? Was he losing it? Had he made it all up?
Or maybe he hadn't...and had instead repressed their freedom so that he could stay on top. No. No? He wouldn't do that--
Except...yes. He would. Didn't he sacrifice Alphys to further his interests?
God...what was going on?]
no subject
Yes, it was! Mom is a teacher at my school now and Asgore does the bushes and stuff and you and Napstablook and Shyren are famous.
[It was still a little surprising how quickly they'd dominated attention, considering how... careful they were trying to be when it ca,e to human-monster relations.]
no subject
[Mettaton can't take it anymore. He's distressed at the information, which cannot be true. The human is fraying his last nerve with their overactive imagination, and it's really starting to show, despite how much he tries to push it away. To pretend that Frisk is just saying this to guilt him, and that none of it is real because how could it be?
He's parroting Mettaton's shattered dreams to him, and talking about Shyren and Napstablook?! How dare Frisk even think of his cousin and old friend?!]
This is not what I know!! This...is wrong!!
no subject
[It's a weak and childish retort, not something an ambassador would say but he's not as smart as Mettaton or Alphys or Toriel. It's the best Frisk has got, especially when frustrated.]
Well, it's what I know! To me, it's right and you're being weird!
[It would help if Sans had been around long enough to explain timelines to him but, unfortunately, he hadn't been. Which made things more than a little difficult for the both of them.]
no subject
...You know, that is not a very polite thing to tell someone. Is that all you think of me? Weird?
[Despite the ugly look on his face, Mettaton speaks calmly. His fingers even steeple, held up around his face in a pensive expression. He seems to be attempting to calm himself.
It's no less threatening.]
Little human, I think it prudent that you leave, or apologize. Both would be preferred...but this charade has gone on long enough. I will tolerate it no longer.
no subject
You are being weird though!
[This is one thing Frisk is refusing to budge on.
> * You are filled with DETERMINATION.]
Why should I say sorry when your the one being weird? And I was living here first.
no subject
You should say sorry for quite a few things.
Human...I do not know why it seems that our lives have reached a divergent point, but maybe I should explain my side of the story, as you seem to misunderstand. Maybe you are not lying, sweetheart, but neither am I.
[There's something cold in his next words, and his expression matches.]
Do you want to know why I am so weird?
no subject
You should say sorry too though.
[This is probably something Frisk really doesn't want to know but, as they say, curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought him back.
Meet the cat.]
Why?
no subject
[Mettaton's heels click crisply in the air as he begins to pace, very slowly, around Frisk. There's something predatory about the way he circles the human.
If Frisk is the cat, perhaps Mettaton can be the hawk planning its dive.]
The last time we saw each other, you spared me. That was actually quite charitable of you! Just as charitable as it was of Alphys to fix me one final time. It is a shame, though, that the human I knew, the human who performed with me, a human appearing exactly like you, did not see fit to grant Undyne mercy. Nor the king and queen.
[He paused at this point, turning away from Frisk.]
But you see, the part that really galls me is the fact that Alphys fixed me, only to leave indefinitely. Before I could apologize. Because what she cared for...who she had cared for? Were no longer alive. A human, you, killed the one she loved, the king she served, and to that end, I never saw her again.
Never.
[Once again, he turns to Frisk, and there's something manic in his eye now.]
Do you know how hard it is to run a faltering country stuck under a mountain, dear? Do you know how hard it is to lose the only friend you had because you were selfish, and never had the chance to apologize?
Do you have any idea how much it hurts? These memories and experiences are real, do you understand? I had to live with the fact that my friend is probably DEAD!! Don't you care?!
/yanks your heart a little
That's a lot and Frisk isn't sure what to do with that. One thing is certain though, Frisk has been in enough danger that Mettaton never leaves his sight throughout the entire devastating explanation. He can guess where Alphys disappeared to: the True Lab. With the Amalgamates.]
Is that why Sans didn't like me?
[The movement of tiny hands now is slow and sad, it's the first thing Frisk thinks of right now. Mettaton remembered Frisk hurting people but he knew he never had. Was that why his hoodie-wearing friend had seemed so distant?]
I would never hurt mom or Undyne or anyone. Undyne taught me how to cook even though we accidentally burned her house down.
[Sniffle. Rubbing his sleeve across his eye and runny nose now.]
At least people wanted you! And Alphys probably just went to her secret lab under her one in Hotland.
no subject
They always manage to get away and best him.
But Mettaton is legitimately upset, and if he could cry, he would. THis is more emotion than he's expressed openly in so long that it was all coming out in a cascade.]
Don't you think I looked?! I looked EVERYWHERE for her!! I looked through all of her laboratories, even the one with those abominations!! There was nothing left of her!!
I don't care what Sans thought of you. I don't care!!
[Another painful statement? That people wanted him. No one wanted him anymore unless he forced them to comply!! No one...really believed in him as king. They had fair reasons. Mettaton was an awful king, wasn't he?]
You cold, heartless, unfeeling thing! LEAVE ME ALONE!!
no subject
They aren't abominations, they're people too.
[Despite their few interactions, Frisk had to defend them. Who else would otherwise?]
You're the one being a bully! [So who are you calling heartless?]
no subject
It will never matter, because if Frisk's determination isn't killing someone, then it's at least never going to let him win. Not this battle, and not this argument. Because...Frisk didn't think he'd done anything wrong.
He didn't know...and as much as Mettaton wanted to hold him accountable for it, the kid wouldn't have it.
So he did what he did best. Tried to ignore his problem and pretend it was no longer there.]
no subject
You're mean, and a bully! And you can't have Sans' apartment if you're gonna be a jerk!
[And just like that, Frisk turns and runs. Not back to the elves he'd been staying with since Sans vanished though.]
