[AUGUST] Test Drive

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?
Have no fear, a meme for you is here.
Directions:
- Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.
- Post with your character with their name and canon on top!
- If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.
- Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.
Locations
1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.
Scenarios
1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!
Pearl | Steven Universe
...but for Steven, of course. however, he doesn't seem to be here, either. nor is there any sign of garnet or amethyst; never mind lazuli or peridot, irritating as she may be.
pearl has no problem being alone. at times, she prefers it. but this isn't a solitude she chose; it's a solitude she found imposed upon her, along with the sudden change in location to...]
...Ruby City. My, that's ridiculous. I don't see a single Ruby.
[and if human naming schemes hold consistent--with beach city having a beach, and all--this place should be absolutely crawling with rubies. upon noticing the flyer depicting the uses of a watch, pearl frowns and squints at her own. that's never been a part of her projected physical form, before, and she doesn't seem to have any control over whether it's there or not.
were it not for the overwhelmingly human feel of this city's architecture, pearl would suspect Homeworld. it's not out of the question, still. but she decides to get information where she can. the faster she resolves this mess, the faster she can focus on more important things. after a moment, she settles on using the audio option.]
Ah, hello? Is this communication device on? I seem to have--wound up here unexpectedly, and am looking for my comrades. Ah--Garnet? Amethyst? Steven? Is anybody out there?
[as dreadful as this place seems to be, it would be slightly more bearable with her teammates. though she does hope steven's not here--he should be safe at home, in bed, or playing those games or whatever it is he does when they leave him unsupervised.]

An unsuspecting Steven just walks down the street towards the station square, having just done his usual grocery shopping (should he still call it shopping? There was no one there half the time, and they didn't use any money.), and having decided to go the long way around since it was such a nice, sunny day.
He instinctively looked toward the station, vaguely wondering about newcomers before he even registered the voice that came from inside. A new citizen? The idea of new people in the city always gave him a mix of both excitement, for meeting new people, and a faint pang of sadness, as they were now stuck here.
But there's no point in being a downer - if there's someone new here, he should welcome them.
He sets foot towards the station, ready to greet this new person, welcome them into the city and answer the questions they surely have. With a big, friendly smile, he raises a hand as he walks through the station door.]
Howdy! Welcome to Ruby--
[ ...he drops his bag, staring for a couple of seconds, smile completely faded from his face. He can't believe it- after all this time, after being here for so long-]
...Pearl?

[Her voice doesn't have a smile in it, when she speaks. She's very serious, and she also sounds very young.]
I can hear you. But I don't know anybody named . . . named after those stones? I think there's someone named Steven around.

[That caught Afonso's attention, not that he wasn't going to respond to a new arrival. He blinks, curious as he looks at the woman - was that... Was that a jewel of some kind on her forehead?]
There is a young boy named Steven here.

[She knows one Steven. The small human with the black mane and cheerful demeanour that she's sure, like hers, hides more than he wants to tell anyone here. Twilight holds the watch up with no visible part of her touching it, and indeed looks too far back to actually be touching it at all.
While she doesn't often greet people this way, something about the way this person immediately called out for their friends speaks to her.]
I think I know him.
no subject
Hi. [she says, lamely.] I'm here.
hak | yona of the dawn
[One of the benefits of arriving in a strange place still furnished with your very own extremely lethal weapon is that there's no question as to what to do first. Not that there ever is, with Hak; he so rarely hesitates, could probably stand to do it more, but in a crisis, at least, he's dependable.]
[The trouble, the first thing he needs to fix, is that no one is here to depend on him. That isn't correct. This isn't Kouka, of course, but that's a secondary concern. He was brought here by an enemy, obviously, and as such his job is to kill them and find Yona, not necessarily in that order. Ideally not in that order.]
[He could really do with a handful of dragons right now. Figures that when you need them they're nowhere around.]
[In any case: he starts making his way away from the train station. He won't get far, though. Because the first person he meets, if they get close enough, will have the blade of his hsu quandao resting delicately against their throat and a blank, Very Done stare leveled in their direction.]
Take me to whoever's in charge. And do it quickly if you don't want to get a lot shorter.
[He's so cool.]
two. network
[Witness: one staring face. Hak is lots of things, many of them good, even, but none of them are tech savvy, so. He just starts poking at the buttons at a fairly dizzying speed. Whoop, his screen's turned sideways. Whoop, it's black and white now. Black and white and upside down. Sepia! Who knew. Normal again, and—]
[And now it's voice. There's silence for a moment before he speaks, flatly.]
Did it stop doing that? Finally. Who needs that . . .
I need new clothes. These have blood on them. Where can I find those?
[A beat. And another. Eventually:]
It's not mine.

I should imagine if you go about beheading everyone who can't give you a satisfactory answer, you'll find yourself escorted to an authority quite quickly, albeit not the one you have in mind.

[It wouldn't have been the hardest thing to achieve, not with my bionic arm. Whoever the newcomer was, he wasn't the best at amicable first impressions. The blankness of his expression was indeed quite like Julian's.]
I would do it quickly if it was possible for me to do so. The ones we consider in charge aren't exactly in charge. And they come and go from here as they please, unlike us.
Also, it wasn't going to be quite what you expected.

two;
[It's safe here.]
[Yona has told herself that over and over and over again. True, "safe" is somewhat a relative term for this place. There are still dangers beyond the city and even a few that manage to creep within when the powers that hold their sway over this place begin to shape and manipulate the people and the city around them. But it's safe here for her. For Yona. She doesn't have to hide her hair. She doesn't have to be Rina. Her enemies — or rather her enemy and the men he's brought to heel — are not here.]
[It's safe here. It's safe here. It's safe here.]
[If she doesn't say it, she forgets. But she says it to herself, and it gives her the courage to say,]
H-Hak...?
[Because it means it's safe here for him, too. It's safe to say his name without worrying about the consequences. Still, she's afraid that she's just seeing and hearing things because it is safe. He doesn't need to be here to look after her, or keep making good on his stupid promise to stick annoyingly close to her like he's reminded her over and over that he will. Her heart is pounding in her chest and she's grateful not to be holding her watch herself or he'd know how much her hands are shaking even if he can already see the ways her eyes are already starting to glisten. She hates it sometimes when she cries because it sometimes makes her feel small, weak, and helpless. Like all she can do is cry. But if the tears get to be too much for her to hold back right now, Yona doesn't think she'll mind them.]
[It won't be a bad cry for a change.]

Berg Katze | Gatchaman CROWDS
HELLO SHITTY-BITCH CITY!
[ Oh God! It's probably 3am by the time everyone in town gets this rude awakening. Something malevolent, evil, and quite fashionable has decended upon Ruby City and it promises to bring nothing but trouble.
Ladies & gentlemen, meet your new daily migraine.]
This is DJ Berg Katze reporting in from Outer Space~! [He's really not in space currently. He's on top of the clocktower.] I think I saw a UFO!
Certainly had little green men it~
But anyhoo, do y'all know how fucked you folks are? I mean like really! Talk about spooky city shit! This place is hella creepy~
Worse than Japan any frickin' day! Wara, Wara, Wara!
[That's him...laughing, folks. Yep.]
So, let's play a game! I got a riddle for y'all to solve before the real fun begins:
What's the sweetest tastiest thing that all humans like but hard to get?
Think about it reaaaaally hard! [Sinister snickering ensues.] It might save your life once the game begins.
[What the hell does he mean by 'game'? Might have something to do with the knives sharpening in the background.]

[Dirk isn't sure why he answered. Already, he's getting the feeling he might regret it. Riddles.. Riddles, he can do, but this sounds like one that's designed to have no straight answer.
It's just as well that he isn't planning on answering it.]
The introduction was a let-down, though. Needed some sparkle. Maybe fireworks.
[Excellent idea. Suggest fireworks to the person who just woke everyone up at three in the morning. Even Dirk had been sleeping and that was really saying something.]
If you're going to go 'drama', might as well light it the fuck up.

Akutagawa Ryunosuke | Bungou Stray Dogs
[Most people who know the city well enough know the park is a place to be avoided... Akutagawa is not one of those people. Then again, danger has never been something effective in dissuading him from entering a situation. While at first the exploration went uneventfully enough, soon the local monsters noticed that someone was wandering around seemingly unprotected. Assuming there was an easy target within reach a pack had started stalking the young man.
Akutagawa pauses in his walk, noticing the creatures leering and drawing in closer, although to any observer he would seem less than bothered. Just as one pounces he says only]
Rashomon.
[At the command a black mass erupts from his coat, all teeth packed into a glowing red mouth. It cuts and slices through the monsters, sending sprays of blood and pained howls through the air until nothing buy the Mafioso is left standing. The park beasts never stood a chance.]
Network.
[The video cuts on to reveal the results of the above scene, the ground littered with blood and limbs all centered around the source of the massacre. Akutagawa. He coughs softly into his hand before putting both into his pockets, eyeing the corpses with disdain.]
Pitiful beasts. You're hardly even worthy to die by my hands.
Network
[Nevan has her chin resting on one hand, the sky in the background giving no clue to her location but her gaze intent and keen on this terribly interesting person and the mess he has left behind him.]
You know how to make an entrance, sugar.
Mettaton | Undertale (Spoilers for True Pacifist/Neutral Runs)
A. 1-1 (True Pacifist Mettaton)
[Well. Well well well. Well welly well well.
Mettaton's not much for trains, so he'd remember if he had wasted money on a ticket. However, as the train pulls into the station and he prepares to unboard, he's still wearing a passive look on his face, maybe even a slight smile.
After all, he wasn't the kind of guy to just look at a strange situation and panic! Quite the opposite, he was ready to take it head-on! Maybe he was even the guest star on a show himself, some secret and most daring kidnapping attempt by which to surprise the master of entertainment!
Yeah, he'll go with that!
The clack of his heels on the floor of the station echo through the empty space as the robot leaves the train, and he gives it a sideways look for only a brief moment before beginning to explore. His first stop is, naturally, the informative posters on the walls of the station. Bringing one gloved hand to his chin, he lets out a thoughtful hum.]
Ruby City, hmm? It certainly sounds like something off TV!! Alright then, where's the camera?! I can't really participate if no one tells me the rules, beauties!!!
B. 1-1 (King Mettaton)
[While not bereft his sense of humor, Mettaton doesn't look agreeable to the fact that he's on a train. There are no trains in the Underground, so he's only marginally familiar with the form of transportation and thusly knows something is afoot.
Still clad in cape, crown, and gilded gloves and boots, Mettaton exits onto the station platform, his visible brow drawn in annoyance. This...is not artificial light filtering through the windows, is it? There was nothing familiar about what he had created here. No statues, no stage lights and spotlights. He'd never allow for this level of brightness, because then none of his spectacular lighting through Hotland and beyond would look right.
It's not right. Where the hell is this?
...A smart king does his homework however, and he moves to the posters. Ruby City...it was not a part of the Underground.
Who had brought him here? Ohh, Mettaton would have to see. He's not a tyrant, oh no! Everything he did was for the benefit of the people, with only a few questionable tactics which he wouldn't discuss with the lesser citizens, because then they would realize that everything was not okay like he insisted it was, and he might have to do something about it.
Either way, he makes his way out of the station and into the brightness. Light doesn't bother him in general, but after so much time exposed to his own artificial lighting and nothing real, he does squint a little. It doesn't help his unpleasant expression very much, but eventually it evens out into a more passive one as his eye adjusts to the outside. He skims his surroundings, then eventually catches sight of someone at a distance. Hah! Now he'll get somewhere!]
Excuse me, sweetheart!! [He calls it out in a sweet, but imperative tone.] Could you help me? I appear to be a little lost!!
C. 4-10 (True Pacifist Mettaton)
[Having decided to explore in order to sate his curiosity on the surroundings, Mettaton has finally encountered Ruby City's namesake; the giant red obelisk in the center square.
To be honest, he's not impressed, and circles it with a judgmental look on his face before finally deciding to speak:]
This is pretty tacky, isn't it? It would look better in a lighter shade of rose quartz!!
[Someone. SHOW UP AND AGREE WITH HIM!]
D. 8-2 (King Mettaton)
[For a guy covered in jewelry and such, it's surprisingly easy for Mettaton to find when something doesn't belong. That's how he finds the watch while he's walking--well that, and where it was dangling from, it kept smacking into his thigh. That does get distracting, you know. Taking a pause, he looks it over and realizes what it is; it's a communication device! Very small, veeery interesting. He might even compliment the maker, because to make something so small functional? That's pretty good.
Flipping it open, he pokes at it a few times; a quick feed is broadcast of just his face once or twice, just while he's sorting the functions, but soon enough, a more stable video begins, and he smiles serenely into the camera.]
So that's what this is for? Thank you for the gift, my dear city, it's good to have a means of communication!! Hello there!! I'm sure you all know who I am, but just for the sake of propriety...my name is Mettaton, and I admit that right now, I'm quite confused!!
[Here, his expression becomes a little less inviting, and his tone gains a subtle edge.]
Why am I here? Please, tell me what beautiful individual I can impart my royal thanks to for displacing me from my lovely subjects~?
king mtt just because so B
Mettaton is the last person he expects, not that he isn't happy. The child immediately brightens at the familiar figure and voice and scampers toward him, not even giving any thought to the robots getup. It has to be for some kind of show, right?
His watch stays stuffed in his pocket for now, too excited to try typing and starts wildly signing at MTT.]
We're in Ruby City! It's really neat and there are lots of people here and real sunlight and everything! Sans used to be here but he's gone now but that's okay because you're here now.

Better to focus on this place, on where and when she was now. She pushed back some of her green hair with a free hand and offered a stunning smile. Now that she got a look at the newcomer... he did look rather odd. Well! Thank goodness for that, she was beginning to fear that this place would turn out to be as boring as drear Mundania.
"Or, we could leave it the way it is," Grey said with the soft sigh of someone resigned to knowing that wasn't actually going to happen...

Kou Mikano / Original Character
[There were so many different sorts of people that exited the train when it rolled in that Kou probably looked incredibly normal. Well, as normal as someone in a bright blue snowboarding jacket with matching pants, complete with the goggles hanging around his neck, a very ridiculous hat, messily knit multi-colored scarf and snowboard bag slung over his shoulder. Yup. Totally normal outside of that.
He scowls as he looks around, squinting at the sign.]
And I thought Applecrest was a shitty name for a place. [That was mumbled to himself as he began sorting through the various pockets in his jacket until he found the aforementioned watch. By the time he's gotten it working he's ditched the hat, his hair suffering severely from being shoved beneath it and a helmet all day.
When Kou speaks his voice is level, irritated.]
If this is another one of your stupid tests I'm not in the goddamn mood. [Someone fell on his butt a lot on the mountain today.] The seals still there so send me the hell back or do you want to deal with Naomi's high pitched scream?
[Because when in doubt, threaten people with his little sister. Brilliant strategy.]
7-10
[Standing outside the catacombs probably wasn't a good idea, but Kou didn't care too much at the moment. He'd long since ditched his snowboarding gear in one of the empty apartment rooms, the only thing that seems out of place in his attire being his pants. The scowl is still in place as he stands in front of one of the entrances, a long pole in hand.
From what he'd gathered the catacombs were unnavigable and dangerous.
Kou liked to think that just meant there was something hidden inside them, like the way home.]
Right. You can do this.
[... Of course he's having a bit of trouble motivating himself to actually cross the threshold into the creepy underground labyrinth.]
You've dealt with scarier things then this. This is nothing, just a bunch of tunnels and some monsters. No big deal.
7-10
[Remus doesn't often see people hanging around the catacombs entrances, so when he does, he has to go and find out what they're thinking even getting close to going into that hellish place. The wizard briefly lifts his eyebrows and glances at the dark tunnel.
He had only ever entered the place once, and that had been more than enough.]
If you think you've seen scarier things, it will find some way to prove you wrong.
I am so sorry in advance for him

Sorry for delay in tagging!!
prince laurent of vere | captive prince (warning for massive book 3 spoilers)
Three things stood out to him above all else:
One - these weren't the palace slave baths.
Two - Laurent, still dressed in the torn and ruined chiton, was still sporting the now slowly drying blood of both Damen and Kastor on his hands.
And three - Damen was missing. Damen, who was, as far as Laurent knew, slowly bleeding out on tiled floors without him there. The world around him felt too surreal and despite his attempts to smother the panic trying to blossom in his chest he could still feel its grip needling him. Behind him the train starts to move and Laurent steps away from it and into the sunlight. Outwardly, his expression schooled itself into forced composure and it if weren't for his haphazard appearance and the blood on his hands he'd come across as someone only mildly lost. As it stood now that was a severe understatement.]

[He knows the signs of shock, though. He's not an idiot; he's seen it in other people. On Yona's face for too long, when they should have been running, and yet he could never be angry with her for it; on Yoon's, even if only briefly, because Yoon was hard-hearted and damaged and as brave as Yona in his way. The look on this man's face is shock, as if the blood on his hands wasn't enough of a hint.]
[This needs to be dealt with. Now. Right now.]
[Hak cuts his eyes sideways as Laurent passes. Not towards him but away, as if he has a thousand more interesting things to deal with than someone covered in blood. But when they're neck-in-neck, his hand snakes out and catches Laurent's shoulder, grips and bears down tight, his eyes cutting back to glare at him as his fingers bite in.]

Ah, Bioshock.
Su | Shugo Chara (this character is tiny fyi)
[ Su had just arrived in the city and was admiring the train station from over the heads of the crowd. She expected to be joined any minute by Amu and the other charas. She floated up and down the length of the platform several times singing to herself as minutes ticked by. A few children pointed at her and claimed she was a fairy but most people passed under her without a clue someone was above them. The crowd started dispersing and still Amu and the others had not shown up. Were they still on the train for some reason? She flew towards the train cars again and hesitated a moment as a strong gust of wind swept through the station.
Once the breeze died down again she hurried to look through the car windows for her friends but it became clear the more she looked that the train was now empty. Why wasn't Amu there? Su gasped as a terrible thought came to mind. Had she gotten off on the wrong stop? ]
Amu-chaaaaaan?!
[ She rushes to check the last cars when another strong breeze hits her, sending her flying up over the roofs of the nearest buildings and flinging her further into the city. At her small size not many manage to spot her at first but quite a few people passing below hear her high pitched wail as the winds send her sailing in wild circles. ]
Help! HEEEEELP!
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
"Temari!"
Temari nodded and grabbed the edge of the table cloth Nadeshiko held out to her, and flew off with it, Nadeshiko sat with the basket, hurryingly tying things to the far end to make a longer tether. When Temari saw Su, she opened the tablecloth a bit to let it catch the air, pushing her ahead of Su for a moment, then she powered forward to wrap up herself and the other chara.
Once Temari had Su, Nadeshiko gently pulled in the cloth and carried the charas over to a sheltered space before unwrapping them gently. "Su?" she asked, surprised, even though she had recognized the voice. She looked concerned, but she was thrilled. Amu was here! She was going to get to see who she could get Amu to... Oh! Enjorlas! She was SURE she could get Amu to crush on him! Wouldn't that be fun?
Of course... Amu would be excited to see Nagihiko too... and might be more insistent than Osamu to see them at the same time. Well... She could figure that out when and if it happened. Still, she kept that gentle look of concern on her face. "Su, are you okay? Where's Amu-chan?"
