Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.


Scenarios


1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

[Hours have passed and by now the sun is sitting high up in the sky, its presence pulling out all the people from their homes to wander through the city's streets. When Laurent arrived it had been early morning with the birds being the only ones to greet him out in the train station. His less than pretty appearance hardly seemed to ruffle their feathers, but he knew better than to risk that with actual people milling about. As much as he wanted answers he could hardly find anything successfully without cleaning up.

He finds the river that runs through the city and slides down the grassy slope to reach the water's edge. A bridge sits up ahead and Laurent makes his way towards its shade before crouching down to start washing his hands. Even in the shade he can see the blood darken the water in small clouds. Damen's blood and no doubt some of Kastor's as well. He takes this time to organize his thoughts into a bare bones plan of action. He needed to... he needed to...

Laurent suddenly stands up when he finishes cleaning the blood from his hands, but a river rock under his foot moves wobbly and throws Laurent off into the water with a large splash.]

[barbaros]

[His poor darling. That's what he'll think later, genuinely and without condescension. His poor darling, who doesn't deserve anything but to rest for the next year or so.

He spots him as he straightens up. There's no mistaking that ramrod-straight posture, nor the shock of blond hair that spills down his back. He opens his mouth to call out-- and then suddenly Laurent disappears, and there's a splash, and his lover disappears from view.

He runs forward, because Laurent might be an excellent swimmer but they've had too many close calls already-- but no, there he is, soaking wet and kneeling in the water, and before he can help himself Damen starts laughing.

It isn't meant cruelly. It's just that it's Laurent, beautiful perfect wonderful Laurent, and he's here and he's alive and well, and that's all that really matters. He slides down the hill gracefully and heads to the river's edge, offering a hand.]

Laurent!

[As he's cursing everything from the flimsy white fabric of his chiton, now soaked and clinging to his skin, to little minnows trying to skirt by him through the clouds of mud he hears that laugh and everything terrible in the world seems to vanish if only for a moment.

Laurent looks up and there he is, hand outstretched for him to take as the sun shines brightly behind him. All of a sudden his chest swells with a warmth and relief he never knew he could feel and yet-]

Damen. [He pushes himself up, grabbing Damen's hand and using it to pull himself closer to him.] You're here- I thought- [Reaching up he cups the side of Damen's face with his hand, leaving streaks of water against his skin. This was real and he wasn't dreaming.]

You're here and- [And then his attention snaps down to where the stab wound in Damen's side was.] ... You were hurt.

[barbaros]

I'm all right. I'm all right-- you know I am.

[He cups Laurent's face in his hands, thumbs running over his cheeks. He ought to be more assuring, maybe, show him the stitches again, but right now he just wants to stare at him. He still doesn't know what's going on, where they are or what's happening, but at the very least he has Laurent here with him.]

Why are you dressed like that?

[The past few days have been hazy, but there's no reason for Laurent to still be wearing the chiton.]

Yes. [He knows, logically, that Damen is alright because the evidence of that is standing right before him. Yet it was hard to shake the worry and fear that gnawed at him up until this point. The relief feels like a weight lifted from his shoulders and exhaustion has him nearly melt in Damen's hands.

Laurent blinks at the question, his hand dropping from Damen's cheek to rest on his upper arm. He raises an eyebrow up at him.] Do you miss my usual attire that much? And here I was under the impression you enjoyed seeing me dressed in such flimsy fabric.

[barbaros]

I do. [He kept stroking his cheek with his thumb, sweeping the water clear.] But I wasn't aware you'd taken to wearing it constantly. Laurent, you're still bloody--

[This was quickly becoming worrying. Damen stepped back just far enough to eye his lover-- but no, that was fresh blood, still red, staining his stomach. Something was off. Something--]

What's the last thing you remember?

[He lets Damen move away, keeping his own hand in place on Damen's arm. A breeze rolls past them and even in the hot sun Laurent still feels a small chill run through him. Akielion clothes were absolutely useless.]

I remember you. [The image comes unbidden to him and he can feel the cold grip of fear reaching around him.] Bleeding out on the floor. [A pause, almost hesitating-] I had just killed Kastor. [He doesn't feel even the slightest hint of regret and stepping away from the moment later he may think about the irony of the situation. An eye for an eye, brother for a brother.]
