OCTOBER TEST DRIVE

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!
arken7: don't you tell me what you think that I can be (glare)

"You expect that to work? Nothing good comes from petty thoughts like those. You're acting half your age if you honestly think that way," Julian stated bluntly once he was done with the thing she'd attempted to use as a weapon against him. The longsword returned to its scabbard and the wakizashi came to bear as he calmly closed the distance between them, neither rushing nor ambling.

"Now, if you're wanting any help from me, you're about five minutes too late for that," he continued. It was uncharacteristic of him to be even half as blunt, but he'd been growing more and more fed up to this point. "Even people that aren't actually on the sane side of things have been more capable of politely asking questions and being more or less civil in this mess of a town than you. You're the first to cause a commotion as irritatingly pointless as this one and hopefully the last. When people say that they think you're power-drunk, they usually mean it. When a man says he's not the toughest guy in town, you pay attention because that's something you'll only hear once in a blue moon. And yet you did not."

To say he was disgruntled would be to speak lightly. If his legs were not mere flesh and bone, the young man would have placed himself in her face and backhanded her off the tree already. With his off hand (which was not bionic). Alas, they were not – and thus, he did not.

Mikage it was, then. Oh and how much more would it hurt him to come and trust Mikage and then find out it had been her all along. Yes, that would be the best way to turn him. And that meant that she wasn't fleeing.... she was repositioning herself for a different sort of strike, and making him underestimate her. Yes. That was it. She was going to go with that answer.

So she put her hastily made plan into action. Or... should that be....maid? It was hard not to smirk, but she left the anger in her eyes, vanishing and reappearing in a tree just a bit further from him, but to one side.

"If I'm the first, I assure you it is because I am also the best," she sneered, bluffing to the moon and back if she had to. She needed him angrier at her, enough so that he wouldn't stop to think about helping one of her victims. "I never doubted you when you said there were others here who were stronger than you," now she did let herself smirk. "After all... I am here now. So you swatted a few flies. I've only half started. Like I told that little girl back there, I have no interest in wasting my power on small fry. You want to send some of these stronger people at me, please do. I look forward to sipping their sweet Leafe. I look forward to pointing out, as they die, who sent them to me. Meanwhile... The girl at the train station? she was just the first. How many people do you think, before I hit one you love? Oh! Or maybe I already did. Tell me," she taunted. "any of your loved ones here have short hair?"

She laughed, appearing in a different tree. Further from the train station. "And with that, I bid you adieu. Come find me again when you get a bit stronger...." Laughing, she vanished.

(The following is for if he takes the bait, and will be replied to from a different journal)

Appearing just outside the train station when no one was watching, looking like the maid Mikage, she collapsed onto the ground in a heap. Magic was wonderful, and so instead of looking neat and put together, she looked drained and half dead - pale skin paler, dress filthy with a tear in the skirt, a shoe missing, hair mussed terribly and studded with bits of plant matter, like she had been fleeing for her life... and failed. She dragged herself forward through the ground a bit after where she fell, towards the park, to make it look like she was desperately trying to escape and then....

She let her hand and head fall to the dirt, closed her eyes and she waited, keeping her breath weak and shallow. Even if she didn't get him, no way she wouldn't get SOMEONE.
arken7: send a prayer to the ones up above (grey)

[I've got DW on dark, so reading black text is harder. If you can fix that next, cheers!]

Her teleportation to yet another tree had him sigh internally. O, for a horse with wings!

"That's not the point of the statement," he replied to her bluff, as much confused as exasperated. Sometimes people just don't make sense.

"From your earlier agitation and the fact that you're evading my words as much as my actions, I wouldn't exactly call what's just happened 'swatting flies'." She was a strange being, but he could see the rhetoric behind her words. "If you can barely keep up with me, I seriously doubt you'll want a taste of somebody who's able to repeat the damage I've dealt in half the time until you're left with nothing else."

Her attempt to goad him with perhaps having attacked someone he cared for fell flat, as the closest people to him in the city were better known by things than short hair – such as, I don't know, being physically disabled and walking everywhere with crutches – and they were not loved. "How much effort did you put into something that had no effect?" he all but laughed at the air where she had been. "I am alone here. No family or friends close as kin."

The woman was already gone, though.

He debated on whether or not to seek her out, to prevent her from trying to destroy something with more importance, but decided against it. The young man simply sheathed his blade and resumed his stroll about the city, a circuit that would eventually take him past the old Clocktower that stood opposite the station.

Mikage was growing impatient there, on the ground. The stiffness would lend verisimilitude, but if no one ever found her, it would be pointless. And then she heard steps approaching. Finally. She allowed a small moan to escape her. She tired of laying here, but she would do whatever it took to harness that power....

"Oh—"

Julian saw the prone figure laying in the street and picked up his pace, reversing his jacket so that whoever it was wouldn't be confused by the vantablack layer.

"Hey. Can you hear me?"

Basic first aid procedures included responses to verbal prompt and assessment of general state before closer inspections; he followed them to the letter.

<p> Got it, I will try to remember, thanks! I had that issue with an app once!

[personal profile] maid_mikage 2016-10-21 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Mikage gave a small groan, as if to answer him. She tried weakly to push herself off the ground, and failed. She let her arms fall back down more or less where they had been, eyes drifting closed.

She always had been one for the dramatics, and he seemed to type to rescue a beautiful damsel.

"I'll take that as a yes."

He knelt down beside her torso and readied his compact first aid kit. To check for internal damage that he couldn't see, he asked, "Where does it hurt the most? Neck? Chest? Midriff?"

Overall, her condition seemed worsened from exhaustion rather than physical injury, but you could never be certain. A touch of the fingers to her neck showed a weak but more or less average pulse, prompting him to select an autoinjector.

"I'm giving you a shot of epinephrine – it'll sting a bit, but you should be able to get yourself up afterward."

After half a moment's pause, he removed the safety cap and pressed the pneumatic injector to her mid-thigh. Even in the thirtieth century, it was one of the most reliable methods of administering medication.

"Ev...ery....whe....re..." she murmured when he asked her where she was hurt. She moved her head weakly, to follow his actions. She closed her eyes at the sting of the shot.

How long should she pretend it would take, how long would it take if she was really that drained? Would she have any clue when to... And then she felt it hit her system like a kick in the teeth. She gasped, eyes widening, and just barely kept control over her transformation.

Okay, she wasn't letting him do that to her again. She pushed herself into a sitting position, shakily. "What did you do?"

Well, that was interesting. Her reaction was slightly different to what he'd seen before. Though, she is from another universe. How she reacts is probably natural for where she's from.

"Epinephrine is an organic chemical, a hormone, used as an essential medicinal drug in its isolated form. Simply put, it's the stuff your body makes that's responsible for your fight-or-flight instincts. What I gave you is used by military and emergency medical personnel for base-level first aid."
maid_mikage: (Glance back)

[personal profile] maid_mikage 2016-10-26 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
She gave him a blank and confused look. Mikage was an undereducated not terribly bright girl who worked for a rather horrid family after all. "I don't understand... but... I...I think I feel better," she mumbled. She rubbed at her face. "Is... is the monster gone?"

She was trembling slightly.
arken7: through the pain (calm)

[personal profile] arken7 2016-10-27 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Monster? The only monsters around here are outside the city walls, as far as I know." Unless she means one of the less human denizens around the place.

Then he realised that she probably was running away from something for a long time before she ended up on the train. Mentally slapping himself, he added, "Don't worry about any monsters, you won't get hurt by any of them here. You're safe here."
maid_mikage: (Oh)

[personal profile] maid_mikage 2016-10-27 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
She gave a small weak nod. "Thank you... It attacked me as soon as I got off the train, and..." she put her hands over her face, trembling. "I played dead... not...not that I could have moved much anyway... I hurt all over..." she whispered.

She hoped she wasn't laying it on too thickly, but she needed to make sure he stayed close, that he came to care for her.
arken7: all the words inside my head (half-smile)

[personal profile] arken7 2016-10-31 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
What? There aren't any aggressive monsters in the city – they can't stand the obelisk. Unless she saw Arachne or… Well, severe distress can mess with a person's memories. I'll let it be for now, but I'm still going to keep an eye on her.

"Well, you're okay now. You won't have to worry about any hostile creatures here. With all the warriors around here, you'll be safe. Trust me on that one."
maid_mikage: (Glance back)

[personal profile] maid_mikage 2016-10-31 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
She gave a small nod and shuddered, hugging her arms around herself. "The family must be so concerned. I haven't brought breakfast..." she seemed a bit disoriented and confused, but that could just be the usual from entering the City. Not that she knew there was a usual to that.

She was annoyed that he wasn't connecting this to the Demon Larve at the park. How much more obvious could she afford to be?
arken7: but they never did, ever lived (aside)

[personal profile] arken7 2016-11-01 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
"No need to worry about that" he reassured. "Time here works differently. Chances are, when you get back not even a second will have passed, even if you stay here for a year."

The young man turned slightly, as if to begin walking. "Want me to give you a tour of the place?"

He had already put the strange conflict of some minutes earlier out of mind, honestly. It was a nuisance that had interrupted his relaxing stroll for the week, something he couldn't actually have every week thanks to the city's events.
maid_mikage: (Oh)

[personal profile] maid_mikage 2016-11-02 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
"A...a year...?" she squeaked. She swallowed, then nodded. "A...alright. Thank you.... I...suppose I should find a job...?"

She looked around like she was afraid the buildings were going to close in around her. Like the idea of being here thsat long terrified her.

Like she was a timid little mouse who needed a protector...
