Okay, how did that happen? We've had vampires here before, and they weren't so bad to deserve that kind of fate!

But okay, you win. I just ran over a demi-god with my jeep.

Mostly by accident. I redirected what was essentially a lethal "bad luck" spell onto it, and it took the form of a frozen turkey falling from a passing plane. Not quite as good as the classic anvil, but it worked.

[She laughs, because man, that was a classic! She was sure someone was laughing really hard in his world too. Art imitating life, or life imitating slapstick?]

Yeah. Turns out, all of the Norse gods were aliens from another planet-realm called Asgard. As you can imagine, people were really impressed with their technology and magics, so, stories got embellished over the years.

Thor and Loki a lot nicer than some stories would have you believe.

Huh. Interesting. I've met an actual Valkyrie, and her boss is still apparently Odin, even if he's running some kind of supernatural security firm...

Supernatural security firm? If they wanted to be confined to Earth and update themselves to the modern world, yeah. But they have intergalactic politics to deal with.

I've come across Odin once, and he called me a goat.

Uh... maybe? There was a Jane Foster who was Thor's girlfriend in a buncha comics, but she was a nurse, not an astrophysicist.

Huh, nurse. Would have never pegged that kind of career for myself, though it would be a good backup.

No, he got turned mortal and then was sent down to Earth to redeem himself, I guess. That was when I ran him over first. I was chasing the cosmic storm his arrival made.

[Now she knows that it was Odin making a wormhole. She never got a chance to ask him about how all that worked, but he likely wouldn't even humor her.]

Really? Well, he took a shorter route. Medical school takes nearly ten years!

I don't know, I don't like the idea of sticking my hands into someone's gut to keep them alive. Give me math and science any day.

Well... my adoptive father tried to kill me when I was sixteen, I ended up killing him...

Got put on trial by the White Council, and assigned an apprenticeship on a farm in Hog Hallow, Missouri. So yeah. Not a lot of time for school.

Got my GED a few years later, though. Nick insisted.

Wow. I can't imagine what it took ... I'm glad you're the one here, and not someone else.

Yeah. Not exactly fun. But the farm... well, it was a good place to get my head together. And my mentor there, Ebenezer... we've had our differences of late, but he's still one of the few people I truly respect.

Yeah. It's good to have someone like that, no matter when they came into your life. Was the farm some place like what you have provided others? A place where people can learn how to use magic properly?

Yeah. Ebenezer really helped me get my head on straight. Justin... my adoptive father... he taught me a lot about magic, but not a lot about the moral implications behind it.

I'm the man I am today because of those years on the farm.

Yeah, a moral compass can be applied to just about everything.

[She has faced some black magic, willingly, to see what it was like and to truly understand it. That Regulus had been willing to indulge her spoke volumes for his control. Not that she ever thought she was in danger.]

Ebeneezer sounds like a really cool guy. Was he a wizard as well?

He is.

[Cool old guy... Well, Harry's feelings on his mentor are currently complicated, but evolving.]

Still is really. Guy's been around since before the French and Indian War and still going strong.
