oathshackledbird: Block (Block)
[personal profile] oathshackledbird
After all those wonderful nightmares, who's ready beat up their fellow residents of Ruby City?

Okay, so not really. The tournament is suppose to be friendly, after all. The goal is building community, not destroying it. So how are we going to do that? Well, it goes something like this...

I have no clue! LOL!

I have run a few things in games before, but nothing like this, so bear with me if things get a little bumpy. There is a questions section below. Please make good use of it if any questions or suggestions cross your mind! And now, on with the show...

Or tournament as the case may be.

ICly the tournament will last two days with roughly half the rounds of fighting taking place on Saturday and the other half happening on Sunday, including the final match to determine the winner. The days for the tournament are 9-20 and 9-21. Ideally, things will be starting in the morning and ending in the late afternoon or early evening. A lot will end up depending on how many people sign up and if there are enough non-powered people to set up a second bracket. The tournament will open with Diarmuid giving a demonstration of his skills against Cu Chulainn, and close with a similar demonstration with Saber as his opponent.

Fights will take place either in the school or outside in the open space in front of the school depending on people's powers and fighting techniques. There will also be food available and places for people to mingle between fights.

OOCly is where it gets fun. Obviously, the biggest danger for something like this is the fights dragging out and nothing getting finished. I am requesting that each pair of fighters decide within a day or two of the pair being posted who will win the fight. This can be done via coin toss, discussion, or however the players wish. The results should be given to me once they are decided, so that I can start putting together the next round. After that, the threads can be done however slow or fast the players wish to do them. They can even be handwaved, since not everyone likes writing fight scenes or has the time to do five threads in a log just because their character is winning!

So, what are the rules of the tournament? Diarmuid is trying to keep them pretty simple because he trusts people to play fair and have fun. However, there are a few:
  • Fights are decided by who removes the flag on their opponent's body first.
  • In the case of a tie, the fight will be restarted. Should another tie happen, there will be a sudden death round.
  • If a judge at any time believes a fighter is purposely trying to hurt their opponent, they will be disqualified.
  • If a judge at any time believes a fighter is breaking the spirit of fair play, they will be disqualified. Please note that traps and tricks do not break the spirit of fair play as they are part of several fighting styles. Asking others to interfere with your fight does as these are one-on-one battles.
  • Summons are allowed, but they are limited. Please don't bring an army of gods to your fight, summoners!
  • At the moment, there will be a bracket for individuals with powers and those without. However, individuals may request to be in a different bracket. If your character wishes to switch brackets, they will need to give a proper reason why to Diarmuid. He is just trying to make sure things stay as fair as possible. He also doesn't want to see anyone get hurt.

Here is a list of characters who have volunteered to help in some way with the tournament:
  • Diarmuid: Judge and organizer of the event.
  • The 10th Doctor: Judge
  • Elena: Security
  • Rory Williams: Medic
  • Afonso de Silva: Set up and gopher

So, after all is said and done what the does the winner (or winners if there are enough non-powered fighters for a second bracket) get for all their trouble? That character can ask Diarmuid to do or get one thing for them. Maybe they want a new weapon? He will cover to cost to get one made at the weapon's shop. Maybe they want some animal claws for something? Looks like Diarmuid's going hunting! I am encouraging people to be creative, but just keep in mind who he is. He is not going to go out and beat someone up for you. Sorry guys.

All right! Now the important things. I have a text box below for those who want to be in the fight to fill out so I can match people and decide on the brackets. Please post that information in the sign up section! If you have any questions or suggestions, please put those in the questions/suggestions section. I can also be PMed at this account or poked over on Plurk @ [plurk.com profile] NekoSandy.

Finally, to help people keep track of the results of the tournament, a document will be linked in the tournament log for all your betting needs. I mean...

Sign ups will be open until the end of the day (11:59 PM EST) on the 18th so I can have time to get the first round pair-ups done. Please sign up by then!
