[MEME] Let's Talk RC (CR Testdrive)

I don't really have a fitting picture for this.

G'day, Ruby City! It's time for a meme for both testdrivers and denizens.

Been itching to test out some CR but haven't had the posts to do it? Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

[If his phrasing is any indication, there are few points in time from which Diarmuid may come. His posture, his reaction; it speaks for itself, and Saber's gaze lowers slightly in her own guilt. Fault or not, she still wishes she could have kept their last meeting honourable.

Still, it isn't right of her to assume.]

Tell me, Lancer, when had we last met?

[He attempts to meet her eyes, but he cannot and instead ends up looking at a spot over her shoulder.]

I did not see the blood stained morning after the night Caster left the war, though I did see you. Do you know of what I speak?

[Unconsciously, his hand rises to his chest and he rubs there--the spot where he had been forced to drive his spear through his own heart.]

...I do.

[She can't look him in the eyes either, instead locking her gaze on the place he'd been run through.]

My sincerest apologies, Lancer. If there had been something I could have done...

Don't!

[He looks up at her finally, eyes wide.]

You have nothing to apologize for! I am the one who should be apologizing. I lashed out at you and everyone and it was none of your faults. My master was the only one to blame.

[Diarmuid looks away again, closing his eyes for a moment.]

I should have controlled my anger. I have so many times before. I don't know why I couldn't this time, but...

I'm sorry.

No, Lancer--

The actions of my former master were dishonourable as well.

[She takes a step forward, shaking her head.]

How could one expect you to act any other way? The actions of our masters were unjust... and I regret being unable to stop those events.

[But... that would mean Diarmuid was dead, in the simplest of terms. What use, then, was the city? Why would they bring someone back from such a fate?]

What does this have to do with Lady von Einzbern?

[Diarmuid gives Saber a confused look, but that confusion lasts only a few moments cleared up as a fuzzy, pain-filled memory crosses his mind.]

No...not Lady von Einzbern. It was him. He was there... I remember now...

[Diarmuid's voice trails off for a few moment as he tries to sort out his fuzzy memories of that time. Finally, he sighs and shakes his head.]

I suppose it does not matter. It is a knights duty to do...as their master commands no matter what they command.

[His words become slower and lower. It's obvious he is fighting to have to get them out. Emotionally he's fighting a war between what he has done all his life and what he wants to do and feels is right. It's not a fight he has had to fight before.]

If he wished me gone...it was his right. I should not have lashed out. I should just have accepted--

[Diarmuid pauses, bringing a slightly shaky hand to his face.]

What am I even saying. I must sound so foolish to you...

No.

[It's a solid statement, and Saber takes another step closer.]

You do not. I know now, by the events of the war, how it is to wish not to follow your master's command.

Their word may be a form of law, but it is not always just. You sound not like a fool, but a man of honour. Your conflict is not one I am unfamiliar with, Diarmuid Ua Duibnhe. You will not be met with contempt.

[She is not well-versed in offering comfort, but she knows what is true.]

[Diarmuid shuts his eyes and smiles slightly, letting his hand drop away from his face.]

Of course you understand. You always did. It is why having met you brings me such joy. Thank you.

[He has to admit. When she mentions she knows the end of the war, he is tempted to ask her what happened especially since she seems to be hinting that things did not go as she would have liked them to. However, he holds his curiosity in check for now. There are more pressing matters that need to be attended to.]

I would like to talk more of these things with you later, but first do you think you could answer some questions for me about this place? How did I get here? I should have returned to the Throne once things ended. Instead, I am here.

[His words are met with some relief. To see Diarmuid no longer tormented by the rage of their final meeting is a weight from her shoulders.]

You are too generous with your gratitude, Lancer. I only do as I see fit.

I cannot explain by what means either of us were brought here, unfortunately. It would seem that magic of the... [She struggles to recall what it was Waver mentioned to her--] third-- no, second school has been used. People from different places, times, universes.. they have been brought to this place by captors who dare not show their faces.

Those who act as you do, Saber, are the ones who are most deserving of praise because they don't ask for it and often end up overlooked because of that, so forgive me if I do not resend my gratitude in the slightest.

[His smile is more real now and more relaxed, though her explanation shifts that smile into something more contemplative.]

Second magic... Yes, my M--Kayneth mentioned it in one of his rants once, but it is suppose to be rare and hard to work. How can it be used so often in a place like this? And what is the source? I expect these are all things those of you here don't know, but are trying to figure out?

[She will not contest his point; rather, she takes his words to heart. Whether she can believe them or not, she is grateful for them.]

It would require our captors to be of a particular skill of magic-- one with which I find even my colleague is unfamiliar. I am working with him to figure it out, however... we have uncovered no leads.

[And of course, it would be courteous to warn him who her colleague is.]

...Do you recall Rider's master?

You mean that poor boy who I often wondered how his spine managed to stay in one piece with as much as Rider slung him around? Yes, I remember him.

[In fact, there had always been a small part of Diarmuid that was a little jealous or maybe envious of how well Rider and his master got along. Their relationship might not have been perfect, but there did seem to be some kind of respect there and the boy was brave from what Diarmuid had seen. Even though Rider's master was often scared to death, he still stood by his servant. Had Kayneth ever done that? No. His master preferred standing in the shadows yelling orders instead.]

He is here? Did he survive the war then?

[Saber can't fight a fond smile, not after she's been in the city for so long. She wonders how Waver would react upon hearing such a description. It was true, though; Waver had been thrown about much like a kitten by his giant of a servant.]

It is true he is alive, but he is from many years past the end of the war. He is a scholar of a magus, it would seem, and a professor. You'll find him in the library and likely nowhere else.

[Diarmuid laughs lightly.]

Good! I am glad to hear he is doing well. He might have been my master's enemy, but he was different from the others. Better somehow it seemed. It is hard for me to explain, but my master often complained that he thought too much out of the norm. I expect in this situation, that is exactly the kind of person we need working on things.

Tell me, are there many others from our war here?

[At Diarmuid's question, Saber's face sobers and she seems to glare at the ground.]

Archer is also here, as well as Assassin's master. We have learned who Archer is, as well.

[Beyond being a giant pain in her ass.]

There is a lancer from another war, however-- though it would appear that war does not occur within our... timeline, I was told. Our universe.

More second magic. I will keep that in mind should I meet the other Lancer. I am afraid I know nothing of Assassin's master. He left the war so early and my master was not fond of telling me anything more than he thought I absolutely needed to know. It was a...frustrating way to fight a war.

[Diarmuid's expression becomes concerned as she speaks of Archer.]

How much trouble has he caused? I can't imagine he is happy to be trapped with...mongrels such as us.

Assassin's master is to be avoided.

[It seems as though there isn't much ese she will say on the matter; still, it's clear how much she detests him.]

He is Kotomine Kirei, a priest, and he acts in that vocation here as well.

[And now to address archer.]

He is more trouble than he is worth. He has it in his head that I ought to cast away my kingship to be his bride. And as for his pleasure, I feel he must only be happy to have so much time for leisure. He certainly doesn't seem too put-upon.

[Indeed, her strong reaction startles Diarmuid. He has many questions he would like to ask, but for now he lets them remain unvoiced. There will be time for more questions later.]

Thank you for the name. I will do my best to avoid him. I wish for no trouble here or to continue a war I have already lost. There is no sense in it.

[As she speaks about Archer, Diarmuid's eyes darken in anger. By the time she finishes and he speaks, his voice has become harsh and nearly enraged.]

How dare he presume such a thing of you! You are no possession! You belong to none other than yourself. He...

[Diarmuid's voice trails off, his anger getting the best of his ability to speak clearly for a moment. At his side, his hand clenches into a fist and then relaxes only to repeat the process a few seconds later.]

[It's good for her to hear him speak that way. Beyond Integra, who had faced harassment from Gilgamesh as well, there was no one to speak like that to her about the situation. No one to reiterate the point she knew was true; that she was no belonging. Diarmuid proves to be just as dependable in this as he is on the battlefield.

Still, she wishes not to see him approach such anger again. Shaking her head, she speaks.]

Your words are much appreciated, Lancer, but please let them not harden your heart. He poses little threat to me, as I will not allow him to do as he wishes. He may assume as he wishes and I will always fight against him.

He will not be the fall of a king, Lancer.

[Placing her hand over Lancer's chest, the site of his final wound, she stares him square in the eye and speaks as a leader.]

Do not let your anger be your fall.

[He returns her gaze for several moments before letting his eyes drop to her hand where it rests against his chest. Diarmuid wishes he could promise her that he will not let his anger control him. In another time, he could have. Now, it is not so easy.]

I won't make a promise I don't know if I can keep, Saber. There is something inside of me that was not there before. Rage. Hatred. I never knew them during my first life. Now they burn inside of me like some dark flame and I...I don't know how to handle them. I try to push them away, but every time I try the emotions find a way to sneak back in.

[Diarmuid finally looks back up at her, a question in his eyes.]

How does one control emotions he has not felt before?

Perhaps I am not the best person to ask.

[After all, she spent those ten years of ruling hardening her expression, becoming 'unfeeling' and inhuman. That is what she believes, anyway-- and this is the kingship she was told was incorrect.

Still, her expression remains resolute; she will not falter when Lancer needs aid. Part of it may be guilt; most of it, however, is what she feels she owes as King of knights. She has dealt with the rage of Mordred and of her closest friend and knight, and she will not fear the rage Lancer carries.]

But I will assist you, Lancer, and if need be I will lead you until your rage is quieted.

I have no doubt this will pass.

[As she speaks a sheepish, though grateful smile crosses Diarmuid's face.]

I am greatly honored by your offer of support. As much as I might hope for an easy answer from another who has been in this place, I expect I am the only one who can find the answer for me. I just hope that I can find that answer before anyone is hurt.

[He pauses, closing his eyes for a moment.]

Saber, I know I have no right to ask this of you, but you are the only one I can trust with this. If I ever fall back into the rage you saw me in that night, will you promise me that you will stop me? Promise me you won't let me hurt anyone.

I am not giving up and I have no plans on losing myself to the rage, but I need to know someone will be there to protect others if I do slip up. This is what you can do if you really wish to help me.

[Saber nods as though such a deal is nearly obligatory.]

I would never think of denying you such a wish, Lancer. At your bidding, I will accept this term. It is a matter of honour and safety--

[With a shallow bow, Saber seals the promise. She hardly needs to; would she ever allow the safety of others to be compromised at the hands of a knight?]

And you have my word. None shall be harmed.

[Diarmuid returns her bow and there is gratitude on his face when he straightens up.]

You have no idea how much of a relief it is to hear you say that. The safety of those who I am suppose to protect must always come before me. You have always understood me, and I thank you for that. I know it probably goes without saying, but if there is any way I can be of aid to you now that I am here, you need only to ask. It will be a great honor to fight beside you again.

[He smiles slightly, a little embarrassed to mention this but he doesn't let that embarrassment stop him.]

If you so wish, once I have gotten settled in, perhaps we can find a way to finish that duel of ours. After all, here we have no masters to interfere...

My thanks to you as well, then, Lancer. It is good to have you at my side here. [With Gilgamesh being a ~~pain in the ass~~ bit of a threat, and Kirei worrying her, it's good to have a trusted ally. She cannot trust the other servants, after all.

She can't help but give the slightest grin on his second comment, however.]

I can think of nothing better. It would be my pleasure to finish what we started.

[Not only with no masters, but hopefully no interfering, nosy servants.]
