Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!

The mask was contorting into expressions and that was more than a little unnerving. If she was in a different time and place, she may have fled completely. But she needed information, needed help and it was more important to man up to find a way home than let instincts dictate override her.

"You don't know either." She parroted, lips pressing together grimly. She could have guessed, from the abundance of wildlife and the colors present through the streets that she wasn't even close to home. It still hurt to have it confirmed. "What...what do you know about this place?"

"I am sorry." And she was. Toriel was used to knowing a lot but the Surface had changed a great deal just here, and she'd spent years in a self-imposed exile. It made knowing much of anything difficult. Especially when finding oneself on another world and not realizing it.

"I only know the name and that we are on the Surface. Perhaps if we explore, we might learn more together?"

"Not your fault." She grumbled under her breath. The girl sighed, pulling her arms across her chest. Peeking up at the much taller creature from under her puff of curls, the girl considered the offer. The boy's paranoia has always been with good reason, and she can't be too trusting after everything with BLI.

But she was tired, and getting cold. "We'll stay out in the open?"

Poor thing. She couldn't stand seeing a child suffer, not from anything and especially not something she could help. Toriel took a step closer and knelt down, cupping her hands together and conjuring a ball of fire between them.

"We can if you like but first here, warm yourself, small one. I would hate for you to get sick." She'd lost a child to illness and while this one wasn't any of hers, she wasn't going to do nothing.

She jumped, just catching sight of the flash of flames and mind racing to the flare of a bomb. It took her a minute for her brain to catch up with what she was seeing and an another one for her heart to slow back down. "How the hell did you do that?"

She still stood away from the woman, eyes wide and awe in her tone. She did hold her her hands toward the flame, too greedy for warmth to back up too far. She didn't take her eyes of the fire, but she tilted her face up towards the woman in a silent gesture for her to talk.

"Shh, it is alright. I will not hurt you." Toriel spoke gently as the girl jumped, not moving closer, not directing the fire anywhere but her own palms. She never did aim to scare anyone, especially not children.

"It is magic. All monsters are capable of some kind of magic."

She still didn't come closer, but she did glance up at Toriel through her curls. She bit her lip, clearly warring with herself over something before clearing her throat to speak. "Monster? Like a-" She made claw hands and growled. "It's not a mask?"

"We're not quite so-" She imitated the growl with a soft laugh, genuinely amused. "as stories might make us out to be. You are right though, I am not wearing a mask."

Toriel stilled after the admission. She never was one to hide her own nature, but she remembered the war between humans a monsters, the creation of the barrier. Some humans just wouldn't care for her kind.

"Is that alright, my child?"

Every bad thing she'd ever known had been human once, had been caused by humans. The only knowledge she had of monsters came from her boys, in the stories they'd tell of old movies and comic books. They'd made monsters scary, but cool. She had liked the stories, the thrill of fear. At was a little different seeing it in person.

"I dunno," she said, shrugging. "You gonna eat me?"

"Eat you?" That made her laugh, like it was truly meant as a joke. Monsters eating people? The stories that humans came up with after they were banished from the Surface! She would have to remember to ask Frisk about stories of that sort.

"Oh no, little one. Monsters do not eat people."

"They did in all of Party's stories!" The laugh makes her feel like she'd being made fun of, and she's not sure how to take it. "They drunk blood or snacked on your brains and stuff."

She's pouting, making herself look even younger. "If you're not gonna, okay. It wasn't a dumb question."

"We have never eaten people before, my child. There was a time where humans feared we would try to steal their SOULs but we never had reason to." Not until they were trapped Underground and, even then, Toriel hadn't been supportive of killing fallen humans for their SOULs.

"Do not worry, you are safe with me. I have only ever protected children."

Monsters stealing souls? That still sounded to her like the sort of thing Party would start talking about late at night around a road flare. She grimaced. She really couldn't call the woman a liar though, and let it drop.

"Just a little company while I explore. We'll stay out in the open." She wasn't in a position to be making demands, but there she was. Too afraid to go alone, too paranoid not to set a few rules.

"Company, I can give. Do you have somewhere to go? Somewhere warm?" Because that was very important. At least in her mind. Keeping good care of children would always be one of her priorities. And it made her miss Frisk. She was sure her adopted child would be alright though. Who else had successfully traversed the Underground and made it to Asgore without dying? Who wasn't a monster?

"Where would you like to go?"

She had half a mind to tell the woman that she wanted to go home. The Zones would be warm and, to her, safer. Instead she kicked at the ground and sighed, frustrated. "I just got here. Don't know where anything is."

She watched the streets, trying to think beyond the intense 'homehomehome' running her head. She had to be logical, had to plan. "I think we gotta get in a building first." She already loathed the idea. "I didn't see anything but this town walkin' here, so." Little chance of getting anywhere else before nightfall. Not without supplies.

Not expecting her to take it, Toriel offered a hand to hold onto while they walked. She'd already shown that she was wary of the old monster, no need to force her past her comfort level.

"There are a few empty houses and apartments to choose from around the city, it seems. I imagine you will have enough options for comfort.]

"I don't need a place to live. I'm not staying." She did not take the hand offered, instead taking off down the street on her own. She did gesture for Toriel to follow after. "I wouldn't wanna stay if I was you either. This place is freaky."

She peered into windows as she walked, frowning heavy. "Just wanna get warmed up before we scatter. Maybe find some grub, if we're lucky."
