[January] Test Drive

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Use an RNG to choose a location and prompt, or wait for someone else to tag.

  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!

  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.

  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

Locations

1.TRAIN STATION - The place where everyone gets dumped off at. Your first view of Ruby City, complete with informational posters telling you all about where you've ended up.
2. THE BEACH - Lovely year-round, though in the winter months, you're probably not likely to dip your toes in.
3. THE BLACK STALLION - A rather quaint bar. Supposedly, the burgers are great, but you don't see anyone immediately who's willing to serve you. Maybe you're meant to get it yourself.
4. THE OBELISK - The tall monolith in the center of the city marks the gathering place of many events, though right now it seems to be cold and dark.
5. THE CLOCKTOWER - Offering an impressive view of the city, several residents come here to clear their heads, if they don't mind braving the narrow staircase.
6. THE COFFEE JOINT - the front windows are warm and welcoming, and it seems there's always someone friendly enough to fix you a cup when you wander through.
7. THE CATACOMBS - Intrepid, aren't you? Those weird holes may beg exploring, but go too deep and you're going to be in a lot of trouble, considering the viciousness of the creatures held within.
8. THE CITY STREETS - All told, Ruby City is a lovely place, once you get past the fact that several of the buildings look derelict and on the verge of falling down. There's no harm in doing a little sightseeing.
9. THE PARK - You thought it'd be a lovely stroll, but the park is anything but friendly, if those approaching wolf-like creatures are any indication.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like what we've come up with? Feel like picking your own place? There's a whole host of lovely locations to choose from in the City.

Scenarios

1. NEW ARRIVAL - Step off that train, walk down the street. People usually latch on to newcomers to try and help them out. Even if you look shy, the other residents probably won't be!
2. WATCH TALK - Feeling lost? Disoriented? Don't worry, everyone feels that way on their first day. Fortunately - if the signs at the station are to believed - the watch in your pocket can be used to talk to whoever else might be here.
3. BAD WEATHER - Aw, man. Whether it's snow, or rain, or just plain cold, today was definitely the wrong day to get dumped off in a City in the middle of nowhere.
4. A RUN-IN - Maybe you weren't watching. Maybe they weren't. Either way, you just bumped into someone. Perhaps apologies are in order?
5. HELP, IT HURTS - Clumsy, aren't you? Perhaps wherever the train brought you from wasn't so friendly, or you just tripped and twisted your ankle. Either way, you're in a bit of pain. Hopefully someone will notice your booboos and help patch you up.
6. HUNGRY - It isn't very obvious sometimes that restaurants are what they are, especially in a place like Ruby City. Where can a person go to get a bite to eat around here?
7. MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Hey, there's someone you know! --Or maybe not.
8. BEING FOLLOWED - Maybe you're just being paranoid, or maybe you've got a reason to be afraid. Whatever it is, it feels like there's eyes on you...
9. EVENTS - Feel free to look through our event tag!
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN - Don't like any of these ideas? Feel free to come up with your own!

Aqua stepped off the train, frowning slightly to herself. She had been on her way to District X to see if she should be bringing her students to help in the soup kitchen when... This was not District X. She looked at the signs warily.

"Ruby City," she said softly to herself, then shook her head. She called forth her Keyblade and stretched slightly. She looked around. She wasn't sure how she had gotten here, or what had happened, but she was determined to find out.

Rei stepped off the train, looking around her, frowning slightly. This... wasn't even remotely where she was trying to go. Ruby City? She had no clue where that was. Or why she was suddenly alone.

After spending most of her life alone, it bothered her that being on her own now felt weird. Still, she had done it before, she could do it again.

Checking that her weapons were in place, she headed off to explore this Ruby City, and to figure out where she could get a flight back home.

The fact he was capable of waking up was surprising enough to briefly eclipse the fact that where he woke up was not the building in which he died. Sitting up, one hand immediately sought to touch his neck despite the lack of pain that his memories told him should be present. It left him wondering if perhaps this might be some strange form of an afterlife. There was one obviously, perhaps this was merely the form it had taken for him.

When the train came to a halt and he stepped off the train, that notion was disabused. He walked over to where one of the poster's hung and wondered just what in the world was going on here as he read it.

[6.2]
[He manages to find what appeared to be a cafe, and after acquiring a cup of tea from the person behind the counter, he settles at one of the tables off to the side, out of the way, yet with a decent window view. Time to turn his attention to the strange watch he'd been given upon arrival.

He took a couple minutes to familiarize himself with the controls before actually using the device.]

Who can tell me just why and how I've arrived here in this... Ruby City?

[He'd like to know just what is in store for him here, surely he had to be saved from death for something. The question is if that something is good or bad for his continued well-being. Mentally or physically.]

Amelia had been waiting at the station, as she often did, in case the Raggedy Doctor arrived. She looked up when the man stepped off the train, and she took in his outfit, and his hair. She got off of her seat, and dragging her suitcase walked over to him.

"Are you an undertaker?" she asked, peering up at the man. He was tall, whatever he was.
aquawayfinder: (Never Give up hope)

[personal profile] aquawayfinder 2016-01-11 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
She glanced away from the poster to the other newcomer, suddenly glad that her keyblade was to hand. Something about him reminded her of danger. She wasn't sure why, and she wasn't the sort to attack without provocation. But it helped to be prepared, and calling in her Keyblade in front of him would have marked her as a Mutant, even more reliably than the X badge on her uniform or her blue hair.

Since the city sought to only bring in new arrivals on the weekend, Henry only hung out at the train station on the weekend. With the amount of cool people who had appeared, there was always the possibility that more could arrive. Including those from Henry's own home world. Sadly, that latter wasn't the case today. But it was someone he recognised somewhat.

Severus Snape was slightly smaller in the flesh than in the movies but Henry attributed that towards Alan Rickman being slightly too tall for the character. He was, however, still quite an impressive man. And Henry had to remember his abilities at a time like this. He kept himself on guard, ready to defend himself with his Keyblade or apparate elsewhere if needed.

Then he called out to him, trying to look non-threatening. He was only a fourteen year old boy after all. But then again, he'd done quite a lot in the past few years. As had Harry Potter at that age.

"Hi. You must be new. I'm Henry. If you want, I could answer some of the questions you no doubt have." He was glad he left Mister Spots in the house. He would have wanted to say his own hello.

There's a deathly chill in the air.

[The youth complains aloud as he clutches the white collar of his tunic. Having only just arrived at the train station a moment ago, poor Alphinaud found himself completely at a loss for words. The dreadful cold made the lad shiver more than once when a gust a wild blows.]

Have I not learned my lessons since Ishgard?

[The intrepid youth whines as he tries his best to ignore the cold. His Sharlayan style tunic is rather fashionable back in Eorzea but it does nothing to shield him from the elements.]

Goodness, I'll be frozen before sunrise comes--

[Just in the middle of his thoughts, Alphinaud heard the telltale sound of footsteps coming from the other end of the platform. The boy silences himself for a nonce before calling out.]

Hello? Anyone there?

[No answer.]

Surely I'm not going mad.

---

7.1.

Ah, so this is the entrance way.

[It's not often that the catacombs of this seemingly quaint city receives a visitor but they have one in Alphinaud.

The elezen youth ventured all the way here after hearing rumors about the tombs that lie in wait here. Known to be a rather adventurous young man, Alphinaud couldn't possibly pass up the chance to explore the city that lied beneath. With his trusty white tome within his hands and dressed in his usual attire, Alphinaud scales down the rusty steel ladder and hops onto the platform that leads into the underworld.]

Let us see what lies within. Hopefully my arduous journey here will prove fruitful.

[Just what is this gossipy child possibly looking for? Is the boy mad? Surely he knows of the dangerous that lurk there.]

Snape turned at the greeting, silently observing the boy. Given the manner of dress it was entirely possible the lad was a muggle, but best not to make such snap judgments until he knew more. He left the wall to walk toward Henry, coming to a halt just beyond arms reach.

"Yes... I would appreciate that. Perhaps you can tell me how it is I've come to end up here and why?"
truestsweeper: (S4 - Eyeroll)

[personal profile] truestsweeper 2016-01-12 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
In Snape's world's terms, yes, Henry was a muggle. But he didn't not have magic. Not that Snape knew that and Henry wasn't planning on showing it yet. He was here to helpful. And curious. Mostly curious.

"The best way to explain it is a polite kidnapping. There's these people here who take you from wherever you were before you ended up on the train and bring you here. I'm not entirely sure why but it's not as bad as it looks. Eventually, they send you back to exactly the point in time in which you came from but without your memories of being here." Not the best explanation but really, the how and why of it all is really confusing.

Lovely. Given that the only thing he had to go back to was death, that left him little incentive to desire a return home. Though no doubt those responsible would realize that and thus would provide incentive to do whatever they wished via letting him remain.

"I see." The tone the words were delivered in was such it was obvious the statement was more of an acknowledgement of the explanation than anything else. He didn't understand how he'd arrived, nor why, but if the boy was to be believed, he was here until the responsible parties chose to send him back.

"Just who are these people doing the...kidnapping?"

1.1... Sort of?
[Stepping out of the train and onto the platform, the tall and fully armored woman flew her hands on her hips. Turning her attention to her surroundings, she groans through her helmet speakers before her helmet disassembles itself, folding neatly onto the collar of her armor and freeing her half-bunned hair.]

Back again... So now what? I wish I had Atom with me. I'm going to miss him...

[She folds her arms and lets go of a long sigh. The cold turned her breath into steam as soon as it left her lips. She rolls her shoulders and started to take her first steps back to the city that already claimed her twice.]

Well. I suppose I should try and see if my old house is still here. Or anyone I knew. Meeting new people is so exhausting...

3.6
[It's not Sofia if she's not always hungry. Hovering her way to the Black Stallion, she helped herself to something to eat. After a bit of trial and error and some luck of not destroying the flat-iron grill, Sofia helped herself to some of the burgers. Since nobody is around to help her anyway. Humming a song while she lets the grill heat up, Sofia scavenges the shelves and drawers behind the counter while still in her armor. With the loud sounds of shifting boxes and clinking glass bottles to be heard in the empty bar, it looks like Sofia is robbing the place. When the sound of the door opens, she peers her eyes through the bar top to see just who came in.

She narrows her eyes and lifts a brow at this person before very slowly lowering herself back to the concealment of the bar. Totally not suspicious.
]

3.6 - Version 2
[When the sound of the door opens, she peers her eyes through the bar top to see just who came in...

Without a word, she pops out of the bar with a blank expression on her face, just holding some cooking oil and raw meat on her armor-encased hands.
]

Uhm, hi. I'm not here to steal, I swear... If that is what you're looking at me like that for.

Henry gave a shrug at that. "There's quite a few. I think I've met two of them." For once, he wasn't interested. He was torn between going and staying for different reasons and while talking to Chari was usually nice, that couldn't be said for all of them. For every Snow White, you had a Zelena or Pan after all.

"Try a different question?" He offered.

A ∞ TRAIN STATION

[Cecil Palmer steps out of the train. Or rather, he stumbles out. Crashes onto the platform like he's been shoved bodily from the car, although, should anyone be around with the intent to inspect it, they will find it utterly empty. Maybe he's just that clumsy.]

[Actually, it's fairly probable that he's just that clumsy, based on the sequence of events coming next - the stumble, of course; the catch, where he falls over his toes and gets his foot out just ahead of himself, enough so he can balance; the blank look that follows, as if he's waiting for something else. Something, something.]

[He only really makes a facial expression when the following things register: there is snow on the ground. There is snow on his shirt. There is snow in his hair. It is snowing.]

[. . . It's cold.]

[He looks up at the sky with growing wonder and, after a moment's serious consideration, opens his mouth to catch a snowflake on his tongue. Dangerous. But he lives life on the edge as a matter of habit. (Not quite true. Or at least not intentionally so.)]

B ∞ NETWORK

[The voice is sonorous, though not ominous; precise, though not loud; pleasant, though not cheerful. It's a voice that sounds like it has something important to say, even when it doesn't, the kind of voice that belongs to a man who steeples his fingers before the microphone and weaves words into pictures in other people's minds.]

[The fact that there is no microphone here and that he is in fact speaking words that should sound utterly bewildered seems to have no bearing on the matter at hand.]

I've always wondered about cities with the word "city" in the name. Never mind that this is more like a town - it's redundant, isn't it? Redundant and nondescript. A name should have a little poetry in it . . . something that calls to mind the darkest or lightest parts of things, desert heat or the kind of cold that feeling in your fingers a distant memory.

But.

[The slight sound of rustling, voices in the background. A sliver of static, sharp and piercing, and then he continues.]

I think that I'm very lost. And it's snowing. There's a big - obelisk, but not a normal obelisk, it's much less very much than you would expect from your typical obelisk, and I also think.

I think I might need a sweater.

[Being clumsy isn't exclusive to Cecil, it seems.]

[It mostly went like this: Carlos had been on his way to the library (because of course) and promptly got distracted by the greenhouse (also because of course). This put him catty-cornered (to use the scientific term) across from the train station, lending him a pretty good view of what was out there.]

[So, naturally, when he finally emerged from the greenhouse (all previous errands forgotten, thanks to his tendency to get distracted), he wound up being about a good twenty feet away from the train car when it opened...though, within a few seconds, he was closing the distance rapidly.]

[In his haste, his foot struck a rock and sent him stumbling/falling/flying into a particularly large drift of snow.]

[Just...give him a little bit. Though he does look pretty cold.]

Just the same way as everyone else, I'd suppose. You should know better than to click your heels when you're wearing red shoes, Dorothy.

[There's an easy smile on the blonde's face, amiable if it weren't for the faint hint of mockery in her tone. She saunters over lazily, making a big show of tucking away her watch.]

May I? [She nods at the chair across from him, but doesn't wait for a reply before she slides onto it.]

[ANd she's running in for a hug. Did she ever hug Sofia? Who cares, she's doing it now]

[personal profile] esatru 2016-01-12 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sofia's pace comes to a halt when her ears caught the sound of a familiar energetic voice. She took a second to register it, and by the time she turned her head towards Ibuki, the young woman already was withing hugging range.]

Oof-

[Sofia laughs wryly once Ibuki wrapped her arms around Sofia's armored self. Good thing it's not actually made of metal, or it would be really cold. Sofia gives Ibuki a pat on the shoulder]

Yes, I am. This is the third time this city took me from my timeline... How long has it been, Ibuki?

[Well, truth be told he was half looking at her because she looked rather comical holding cooking oil and raw meet in armor-encased hands.

The other half was in disbelief.]

Sofia..?

[It had been a long time since he'd seen her - both since she left the city and the six years he'd spent back home - but he was sure he recognized her. He only lingered in the door for a moment before walking in, leaning against his crutch, his right pant leg pinned up at the knee.]

That's exactly what it looks like you're doing.

[personal profile] esatru 2016-01-13 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, I can't forget my favorite rock star.

[Sofia wasn't sure what to do after the pat on the shoulder, so she glances around with a puzzled expression and sneaks some pats on Ibuki some more. Not that she minds. She really did miss Ibuki's energetic personality, and she's glad to see her again]

But that is quite a while. So many months have passed by here but it felt like yesterday since I was here last. I don't even see anything that has changed... What happened while I was away? Tell me everything on the way to some shelter. I don't want you to freeze out here.
scary_music: (Yayyyyyyyyy)

[personal profile] scary_music 2016-01-13 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, looooooooots happened!

[She releases her hug on Sofia finally, but goes for her hand to drag her along to the nearest shelter]

Ibuki got turned into a little kid, and people kept disappearing but other people appeared, and Ibuki was forced into a crappy wonderland full of crappy stuff, and pokemons showed up but there weren't enough around to catch 'em all, and a big monster flattened Ibuki's house but then a tiny magical girl fixed it!

And Ibuki got married to a landshark and a nurse!!

[...]

[personal profile] esatru 2016-01-13 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Sofia raised her hands when he mentions her name, responding with an agreeing hum. She wasn't all that surprised to see Afonso. To her, it feels like she just saw him yesterday. Still, she mustered a bit of a smile as a corner of her lip curls slightly at his words]

Well, I suppose this would be stealing back in our home worlds...

[She shrugs, just doing her thing and cook herself something to eat. She poured a light amount of cooking oil before carefully placing the patty on the metal surface of the flat grill. Normally she would wait to heat the oil even just a little, but she doesn't care right now]

Or has things changed a lot since I was gone?
airshipcaptain: (Trying not to laugh)

[personal profile] airshipcaptain 2016-01-13 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
[With a small laugh he walks over to the counter, taking a seat to watch her cook.]

I don't think too much has changed, then again I only just came back a few days ago myself. [He pauses for a moment, then gives a shrug.] Though admittedly it was apparently only a week here.

[He's just still adjusting.]

It's nice to see you again.

[personal profile] esatru 2016-01-13 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Sofia breathes a quiet sigh of relief once Ibuki lets go of her, but it was cut short when she felt Ibuki's grip on her hand. It may have felt like yesterday since she was in the city last, but Ibuki's enthusiasm was something she's being reacquainted to again. She doesn't mind, despite her furrowed brow and sheepish smile as Ibuki leads her somewhere.

Sofia listened to Ibuki summarize what happened the past few months, not too fazed by all the strange events that took place until Ibuki mentioned getting married, to something that made her frown and lit a brow
]

A... landshark? And how did you get married?

[Her instincts as a big sister kicked in when she hears Ibuki getting hitched, and she wasn't sure she'd approve of it so far. Not until she knows more about this nurse and this landshark]
