G'day, Ruby City! It's time for a meme for both testdrivers and denizens.

Been itching to test out some CR but haven't had the posts to do it? Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:

1. Train Station: New arrival, or waiting to welcome people? Either way, the train comes in, but you still can't ride it out.


2. Cathedral: Looking for redemption? Just doing a little sight-seeing? Or just getting a little shelter?


3. The Clocktower: You can see the whole city from here!


4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.


5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.


6. The Coffee Joint: Run by James Potter and Lukas, a lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.


7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

Scenarios

1. Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.


2. Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.


3. Inclimate weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?

Lancer of the Fifth Holy Grail War.

[He grins and gives the other Lancer a thumbs up.]

We're in the same class, buddy!

[He's just about to say something about Kiritsugu when he remembers something.]

...Wait, Lancer of the Fourth Grail War. Your Saber was this short little girl and your Archer was this arrogant blonde, right?

[Diarmuid can't help but chuckle at the coincidence.]

How likely is that to happen? Of all the servants who I could have met here, one of the first I meet is a fellow Lancer.

[He nods, expression brightening slightly as the other servant continues.]

I only saw Archer a time or two, but that would be an apt way to describe him. I don't know that he ever really noticed I was there if I am completely honest. However, my war's Saber--who matches that description--is much more...important to me. Meeting her was probably the only bright spot in that whole miserable war. She understood my beliefs and values where my master would not.

So you're that Diarmuid guy.

[No wonder Saber was a little protective over him and his good name. If he shared the same ideals as her, he was probably the honorable sort.]

Hold on just a second.

[He runs off for a few minutes to go haggle with the bartender. When he comes back, he has a bottle of whiskey.]

You know my name? Should I be honored or worried?

[Diarmuid is not so worried about his identity being known to those in the city. He has no intention of continuing the war here, and there is nothing awaiting him should he ever leave this place. What does worry him is that he doesn't know what exactly has been said about him and why.

He takes the bottle and raises it in thanks. While he's not really thirsty, it would be rude to turn down a gift given so freely.]

I take it you are a friend of Saber's? I met her outside of the train station earlier tonight. She mentioned another Lancer. Once who came from a 5th War in a universe different from the one she and I are from. I am guessing that is you?

Yeah, that's me...

[He rubs the back of his head and smiles apologetically.]

Take that as an apology. I...uh...kinda got you caught up in something with Archer. Since he didn't know I wasn't the same Lancer as you.

Quiet the strong apology.

[Diarmuid rolls the bottle between his hands before taking a drink.]

What exactly was it you involved me in? Shall I expect Archer to finally come looking for my head?

I called him an asshole and insulted his taste in women.

...But if he comes after you, get to the Church. I'll protect you.

[After all, Lancer was the one who had caused the misunderstanding.]

[Diarmuid sighs, looking at the bottle in his hands.]

Does he still think you are me or has that misunderstanding been cleared up? Honestly, if Archer was able to confuse you for me, then it is obvious he didn't pay any attention to me during the war as I suspected. We look nothing a like after all. He has probably forgotten completely already.

But thank you. I appreciate the offer.

[Of course, he had been the one who had confused on Archer for another first.]

...So, now that's settled, you want me to give you a tour or something after you finish off that drink?

[Diarmuid shrugs and takes another drink from his bottle.]

I can only assume. I have no idea how different this Archer is from the one I remember and it's not like we were friends or anything.

If you don't mind showing me around, I would be in your debt. I have a lot of questions and really no idea where to start getting them answered.

Go ahead and ask. If I know the answer, I'll answer.]

I honestly have no idea where to even start asking questions.

[Diarmuid laughs and takes another drink.]

Why don't you tell me what you think the most important things to know about this place are?

Well, all the administrators are some shade between asshole and annoying. We can't get home until they decide to send us home, and they do that at the worst moments. Other than that, life isn't too bad here. The food is free, and if you want other stuff from the stores, you can barter for it. If you need a house, you can go talk to Father Nightshade. He's the other priest. The one who isn't an ass.

[When the other servant mentions people going home, Diarmuid pauses mid-drink and pales slightly. Lancer says several things he would like to ask for more information on, but his mind gets hung up on the 'going home' bit.

There's nothing for him if he goes back. He will just cease to be.]

How often are people sent home? Do they...ever come back after that?

Oh, I think...a couple every two, three weeks? Never kept count. And sometimes they do. Although around half those times, they'll be lacking memories of their time here.

[Diarmuid stares at his mostly empty bottle. That really isn't the answer he had hoped to hear, but perhaps he had been silly thinking this might be a real chance to live again and try to get things right for once. Instead, it sounds more like some kind of tease meant to get his hopes up only to tear them away just as he is getting comfortable living again.]

How long have you been here for?

Couple of months. Know some guys who've been here even longer. So if you aren't getting sent home, you could stay for some time.

[He leans and peers at Diarmuid's face.]

And it's like time gets stopped when you're here. So you can stay however long you like without worrying.

[Diarmuid takes a long drink off his bottle. In fact, he empties it before responding.]

It doesn't matter if time stops or not back home. I'm...done with the war.

...Saber told me you died in there. Is that...what happened to you before you came here?

[Diarmuid gazes into his empty bottle.]

Yes. The last things I remember are red and black, rage and hatred. Then I was here...

[He turns his head his head to look at the other Lancer.]

How much did she tell you?

Just that you died.

[He moves his chair to sit close to Diarmuid.]

Sounds like it wasn't a good death.

Betrayal rarely leads to a good death.

[Diarmuid sighs, setting his bottle onto the top of the counter with more force than he should. He's lucky it doesn't break.]

Especially when it is unexpected and in the middle of...

[The alcohol in him is probably making him more affectionate than he should be, but Lancer reaches out and places his hand on the other Lancer's shoulder in a comforting gesture.]

...Sounds like whoever you were working with was a real ass. At least they're not here?

[And if they were, well, Lancer did hate traitors.]

[When Diarmuid had first lived, gestures like the one the other servant has just made were common. However, during his time as a servant he had forgotten how such brotherly gestures felt and as a result he looks at the other Lancer's hand for a few moments before smiling slightly.]

As far as I know, he is not here. I do not feel his presence and Saber did not mention him being here. I expect she would have told me if he had been.

[He closes his eyes a moment and laughs lightly.]

Who knows. This might be a second chance for me...if I am not sent away the moment I begin to find myself.

I won't let them send you back.

[He doesn't know how he'd fight the administrators on that, but he's going to try to find a way.]
