June Test Drive~!

Thinking of apping a character but not sure they'll fit in the city walls?

Have no fear, a meme for you is here.

Directions:
  • Post with your character with their name and canon on top!
  • Choose a location and prompt or wait for someone else to tag.
  • If you'd like, leave contact info for people to get in contact for plotting and other such shenans.
  • Tag around! Make friends. Don't be afraid to chat OOC while tagging.

    Locations:

    1. Train Station: New arrival, or waiting to welcome people? Either way, the train comes in, but you still can't ride it out.

    2. Cathedral: Looking for redemption? Just doing a little sight-seeing? Or just getting a little shelter?

    3. The Clocktower: You can see the whole city from here!

    4. The Black Stallion Saloon: You were told the burgers were great here-- but maybe you just came for the beer.

    5. The Library: You came to do a little research, but it looks like all of the information's just out of your reach. Though, you can always find a way to pass the time here.

    6. The Coffee Joint: A lovely place to have a chat and a bite to eat.

    7. Le Cafe Anglais: A Parisian-British fusion that's as charming as it sounds and serves the best tea around.

    Scenarios

    1. Just walked in: You intended to get here, and you made your way in; but now someone's caught your eye and you'd like to have a chat.

    2. Been here all day: You've been sitting around minding the time. Maybe you didn't notice them at first or maybe you were just working up the courage to talk-- either way, they know you're here and you know it too.

    3. Bad weather: You're here because you've gotten rained in. This wasn't your choice, but at least it's dry-- right?

    4. Wild card: Got something better in mind? Well screw these prompts, try it out yourself!

    Have fun, guys!

    *Holy shit. Rain.*

*This is actually pretty exotic for Eko. Hailing as she does from an artificial environment where the weather is unvaryingly pleasant, rain is something she has little direct experience of. She's got implanted memories of it, but that's just not the same.*

*The downpour hit while she was exploring the city, and she ducked into the first open door she saw, which happened to be the coffee shop. She's hung her uniform vest on the back of her chair to dry, and is currently looking out the window at the rainy streets as she takes stock of her situation.*

*She has yet to encounter anyone, though this establishment suggests she's not alone, as it's stocked with food--human food. Interesting, but also worrying. What if there's nothing here that a robot can eat?*

A normal person finding themselves in a new city might ask for directions, make a few inquiries of locals or find the nearest police station for help. Unfortunately, Captain Jack Harkness was not a normal person. Oh no. He stepped off the train, looked around and headed for the nearest place that he could hear loud noise and smell alcohol coming from.

A low itch settled at the base of his neck, the sensation of being watched. It wasn't a new thing for him. Hell, if he didn't get at least five looks a day, things were wrong with the universe. This was different, a sense of being the ant in the farm. Best he could do was hope that there wasn't any tapping on the glass.

"Not everyone who gets to take a ride on the outside of the TARDIS," he said more to himself than anyone else as he headed for the saloon. "That deserves a drink."

If one smells good enough (meaning has amazing 51st century pheromones) and has charm (Jack Harkness, enough said) they could very easily find themselves the recipient of quite a few free drinks. Jack himself would have added to that list the ability to tell a good story. With a drink in hand, he grinned at the small group clustered about.

"So if you're ever going to be executed, order four hypervodkas for your last meal and get to know your would-be executioners better. They're a lovely couple, and it was a great weekend spent in bed instead of dying. Still visit them when I can."

[Hope you like strange doctors crashing at the library, because that's what you're going to get. Now, it's true that the status of literature Out West wasn't particularly endangered. If you made friends with the right people, namely the Followers of the Apocalypse, you could even get a nice collection of hardly burned Classics going. Still, finding this many books in one place -- enough for there to be copies -- well, that's something else entirely.

Besides, maybe if he spends an afternoon (or two or three or four--) reading, he won't have time to focus on the quiet in the streets of... wherever this is. It's familiar enough, really. The lights are on, and whoever's at home, well, they're keeping them lit for a reason.

So it's not as distracting as he hoped. There are worse things, he supposes. Most of them, you don't have to read a book to find.

    Well. At least he doesn't.

There's a small pile of books on the table. Classics, mainly. You could call it filling in the gaps. Ovid, Livy, Virgil, Cicero, and Horace. He takes his time with them, and if he looks up, it's probably because of someone walking in.

Admittedly, they may have to speak up to get his attention.]

[Over time the library has quickly developed in to Danny’s favorite sanctuary in the city.

With far too little to do, and maddening boredom scuttling around his brain demanding some form of stimulation or entertainment, the library has been his only real outlet, outside of venturing to places he’s probably better off not going, or just bothering people. He isn’t meant to be idle. It feels unnatural and nerve wracking.

Escaping in to books, or making your own fun, was just about the only kind of entertainment to be found. And since there aren't many problems to solve at the moment (outside of the ever present puzzle of how do they all get home), merely gathering information was about all he could do. The notes he’s managed to find about the city, written by fellow residence, while probably well know information by now, are intriguing enough for the moment, even if they are far too few in number.

It feels odd and a bit creepy to him that there doesn’t seem to be any information on this city outside of what other abducted citizens have created. It furthers the feeling that this place is less of a world of its own, and more like a terrarium, or an ant farm. Set up to look something close to their natural habitat, but ultimately fake.

Since being introduced in to this habitat, his new favorite hobby has become squirreling away whatever little information he can dig up, along with whatever stories catch his eye, and either spends his hours hiding away precariously perched on top of the higher shelves, or piled up in one of the softer chairs.

Today it’s the selves; non-fictions history section to be exact.

Sprawled out on his stomach with a pile of unread books in front of him, he buries himself in a Stephen King novel. He’s never heard of him writing a book called ‘Under the Dome’, but it feels eerily appropriate, in a way. And for the moment it’s just enough to distract the nagging need to be doing something more productive.]

Don't mind her. She's just casually gliding somewhere just above the rooftops, a faint hum and a slightly glowing green light trailing behind her.

She stops, occasionally, and looks down to her forearm where a little screen is projected. Numbers run across it. Not the ones she needs, though, as she frowns at the little light each time.

    [Train Station]

[The train, today, deposits a young looking man. Except there's something about him, something inhuman. He has long golden hair and leaf-shaped ears, he's dressed in brown and green with a long bow, a quiver and a single white knife. Around his shoulders is a cloak of elven make, one that would hide him from unfriendly eyes.

Immediately after being forced off, the elf have an arrow knocked back, sharp eyes looking around the station as though expecting an attack.]

    [Anywhere]

[Legolas takes to exploring quickly. He never lets go of his bow, so very different from the one he'd brought with him from Mirkwood but he's light on his feet and almost unconcerned about the situation.]

Loki hadn't been too discomfited at first when he stepped off the train. It had to be some kind of new mission from the All-Mother, or maybe one of his many enemies was playing some kind of trick on him. All in all, if it was a trick, he'd have to tip his horns to whoever managed to pull it on him, because it was really, really well-executed.

Still, when it started to rain, the shiny sort of rubbed off of this little adventure. Especially since absolutely nothing interesting had happened yet.

He pulled his long coat around him and booked it for shelter, black hair plastered down around his face. He ducked under the eave of a house and gazed with irritation at the sheets of water coming down.

"Well, okay. Fun's over. Can I go home now?"

    1.

A most unpleasant form of transportation. At the least, however, there was little of the actual travel that Finarfin recalled. Though that in itself was a bit...disturbing, to lightly describe it. The noble elf, tall and fair, studied all he could, wary but not immediately going on the defensive.

A place he did not belong, and yet here he was. Whisked away to wherever this was. Beings he knew nothing of walked all around, chattering in languages he knew not of, yet could understand just as clearly were they speaking Quenya - he hardly dared believe his ears.

Yet - this was where he was. Now. He stepped out of the way of others, turning to keep yet more in sight to learn what he could until he could learn just how to return to his people.

    4. [Open to having him get bumped into anywhere!]

    [ The Train Station ]

[ To say that the manner of his arrival, via that great stinking beast that was neither human nor animal, was unlike anything Aragorn had ever experienced prior to this was stating it rather lightly.

He did not waste a second's time in leaving the train, and as he descended into the station, he made certain that his sword was within easy reach, because however he might not like to admit to it, he was not certain what to expect.

There could be enemies here, and if there were, he would be ready for them. ]

    [ Anywhere ]

[ When no immediate attack came, Aragorn took to exploring the area surrounding the train station. There was countryside, unspoiled by buildings or people, which he was pleased to see, but at the same time, he needed answers.

The countryside could wait. He turned to face the buildings, passing them by, only stopping when one's appearance caught his eye. These were some strange buildings, to be sure. ]

    Train Station

[Afonso hadn't thought he'd fallen asleep on the train ride back Mayra to Serria, but apparently he had. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes he bent down to pick up his rucksack only to find it missing.

Come to think of it... Wasn't the train more crowded then this? Suddenly aware of the strangeness of this situation Afonso stood the moment the train came to a halt, hurrying out into the hall and then off the locomotive in search for the conductor.

He found no conductor, and before he could react the train was leaving. Afonso stared after it, eyes wide as saucers before slowly looking around the station like a lost puppy.

Where in the world was Ruby City...?]

    Le Cafe Anglais

[A nasty downpour of rain had sent him scrambling into the first building he could find. Said building turned out to be a cafe of some sorts. Afonso stood in the entry way, wiping rain water from his eyes.

Well... Maybe they would have coffee or something...

Oh but how in the world was he suppose to pay for it!?]

    a. the train station;

[How peculiar. How dubious. A cursory glance through the window was enough to confirm that she was no longer in Mitakihara, but unfamiliar territory in general. That, of course, led to the question: what exactly was going on here? Why did she awaken on a train when she clearly didn't recall ever stepping foot on one...? Where exactly was she, and what business did her captor have with her? She was certain that this couldn't have been the work of a Nightmare, so there must have been another power that be masterminding all of this.

Her mind briefly flickers to concern for Bebe; however was her friend doing in her absence? Mami would have to get to the bottom of this quickly, so that she could return to the small creature before she caused trouble. Granted, she would be appeased in the meantime with some cheese before her, but Mami wasn't so sure how long that would last to distract the creature. There was, of course, her fellow magical girls as well - how would they suffice without her aid in defeating Nightmares? She doesn't have much time to dwell on those questions as in a matter of minutes, the train comes to a stop and she finds herself stepping out onto the platform.

Mami sucks in a breath to steel herself, looking around with widened eyes to get a feel of the strange city, before approaching whomever happened to be in vicinity. She offers the most cordial smile she can manage, but her doubt and bewilderment still happens to shine through.]
Ah... Excuse me. If I may have a moment of your time, could you please explain what is going on...?

    b. le café anglais;

[Sometime after, once she's gotten the gist of her situation and took to exploring the city, Mami can be found inside of the café at a table beside the window. In front of her was a slice of one of the café's trademark cakes and a cup of black tea to compliment it. Perhaps her actions were unexpected for someone who had recently been brought here against their will, but it was helping her relax. Idly, she cuts into her slice with the side of her fork before bringing the piece to her mouth. She turns her head and glances out of the window, distrait. She would be lying if she said this wasn't troubling.]

Hm. [Brows furrow together thoughtfully; she reaches for her teacup and takes a brief sip, cradling it within her hands.] Whatever shall I do...?

[...Well, at least the cake and tea are good.]

[Still at the Train Station. Or maybe just outside it in the rain. Your pick.]

Okay, so... Ruby City. At least that's what the sign had said. No county, state, or country just the name of the city. And seriously, it was a pretty crappy name. It sounded like a little podunk town with a big title in the middle of nowhere. That, or somebody was ripping off the Wizard of Oz and and really, that was Steve-level of bad referencing right there. Some people really had no taste.

JARVIS and the suit were out of commission after emergency shut down protocols had initiated. He was lucky enough to get J to crack the suit open long enough to get out. Obviously, he couldn't leave it in the middle of nowhere(multi-million dollar suit and all, also kind of the most advanced piece of robotics weaponry on the planet)carrying it around. Sure, he wore the giant computerized metal suit, but carrying it was a completely different story when it was powered down. Well, he could always drag it. It wasn't like the Mark XLII was in it's final stages, yet. He could always redo a paint job. Plus, there were more important things he had to get to.

    Like getting to Pepper.

Just as he had bent over to grab the suit he heard the falling of rain as it fell and....no. Rain? Seriously? Now? Now there was rain on top of being stuck in the middle of nowhere with a powered-down suit of armor. Of course that was already on top the fact that The Mandarin just blew up his house. Never mind the whole Happy in the hospital thing and the fight with Pepper over the stupid rabbit (Jesus, the rabbit-what the hell was he thinking?). Seriously, his day could not get worse. Well, it could always get New York levels of bad-and OKAY NOPE. Not thinking about that.

    "Son of a bitch."

[ For a moment, there's a friendly neighbourhood teenage boy perched atop the Clocktower, hoping to get a sight of where he came from so he can get back.

But his explorations prove more or less fruitless and all he sees are trees and ... is that a mountain range? Well, he's looking for a big city like the one he's used to, anyway, and he's not seeing any of the familiar skyscrapers.

He climbs back down the length of the clocktower's exterior facade and lands on his feet with the grace of someone who has no problems whatsoever climbing things (or swinging on them, as it were).

And there's an audible sigh to anyone who might be around. ]

Well, this is gonna be a problem.
